Why I spend my day with SolarWinds
Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
We are using it strictly for our IT department to address issues before they arise. We are able to monitor multiple locations with different resources in every location. We are notified of issues beforehand so we can minimize any downtime. It's amazing to have everything under a single console and get a snapshot view of the big picture of what's going on.
- It has amazing alerting that you can customize based on every need.
- It has detailed dashboards that give a very nice overview of what's going on.
- The SNMP capabilities are off the charts.
- User management allows every tech to see what they need to see.
- Ease of setting up alerts
- Better map views
- More hardware information without needing to use the MIB Database
I have not used NetPath because it is over our budget. It is a very good tool for monitoring actual network traffic. It might be complicated OOB but the payoff is huge. Also, the OOB config that SolarWinds supplies is sufficient to have basic NetPath monitoring. It works well with Cisco, Aruba, etc.
- The less downtime the more revenue your company makes. SolarWinds really makes sure that systems are running 100%.
- Techs now have less work to do since all information is in one console.
- One Negative - It's extremely expensive but it does offset the cost and gives a good ROI.
We are using SAM, which monitors applications and there are very good OOB configurations for cloud applications.
It is extremely important to have all your cloud applications under one umbrella for monitoring. If any issue arises you can log into the SolarWinds console and instantly see where the issue is instead of logging into every cloud application. It saves time for techs to monitor applications and resolves issues faster.
The support is amazing. They are there to help you in any way possible. The OOB is a little tough but it's enough to get you going. SolarWinds comes out with plenty of updates and bug fixes frequently so any bug fix gets addressed. It is very highly customizable not like others that are feature limited.
