Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Papertrail

It's a really good product to monitor your server logs and sends an email alarm to alert you or your team if any anomalies come up in your logs. You could adjust how Papertrail will notice you based on your logs output, so you could make your application output a warning or error log anywhere and Papertrail will make sure whenever it happens, it will come to your attention via email. It's also very useful if you want to know what's happening on your server since it could catch your web server logs as well.
  • Free configuration on how Papertrail will alert you
  • Easy to setup with your server/application
  • Very intuitive and easy to use
  • Fair pricing policy/plan
  • More documentation about the tools: feels like we haven't explored everything they have to offer yet.
  • Options to integrate with major server providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc) easily.
  • SMS alerts
  • We are alarmed properly so it makes it easy for us to monitor the server.
  • Very easy to debug our apps when something's gone wrong (bug) in the production server.
  • Noticed whenever any third party scan was going on our server.
Finding out what's wrong with your application and database is easier if you know what's happening on it. With proper configuration of Papertrail, you will know everything's that happened on your server. This leads to a faster diagnosis of what's wrong in your application whenever trouble occurs and obviously faster resolution time.
Unfortunately, our organization hasn't been using Papertrail extensively and we feel like we could utilize this service further since they provide a wide functionality. I think the less technical staff would be able to benefit from the log if the application itself could output user-friendly log and alarms, so less technical people will know what's going on as well whenever a problem occurs without asking the tech staff
AWS user interface and user experience is not really great, its really hard to trace logs on their console. Papertrail offers so much better user experience for us, its also very easy to setup alarm on Papertrail whenever something's gone wrong. I personally choose Papertrail because it's easy to use, although since default integration with AWS EC2 is not available, we're not using it at the moment.
It's really good to keep logs of your apps and is fairly easy to configure if you have your own web server. Default integration with Heroku is very useful if you are using Heroku. Probably less useful if using AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Would be good if there's any default integration with those major cloud providers.
