Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor
I work at a University and we use SolarWinds Server Application Monitor to monitor about 250 servers. We monitor in-house servers (inclusive of physical, VMware and Hyper-V) and cloud-based Azure deployments.
- Alerts- SolarWinds Server Application Monitor can send alerts based on high disk and CPU usage as well as Server up/down among other criteria
- Monitor Azure Severs
- Monitor Hyper-V
- Monitor VMware
- Monitor SQL instances
- Alerts can be easier to create. I understand the need for complex alerting and appreciate that but there should also be a simple way to create basic alerts
- We moved from at least 5 different monitoring consoles to just 1 when we implemented SolarWinds Server Application Monitor
- Application alerting allows us to quickly know when an application I down even after hours. Before this, we would have to wait for application users to complain to our help desk who would then escalate to the system admin
We also evaluated Nagios Core as a free alternative but being free it could not be trusted to be secure, and it was very difficult to add and manage devices.
