Overall Satisfaction with Synology Active Backup Suite
I use Synology Active Backup Suite in my organization to activate backups. Make them in a specific time, synchronize them and make everything available on our Cloud without having to worry about scheduling about notifications and about errors. It is very simple to install and set up once you have the nest pointed to the computer. It's a automatic functionality that we will run in a specific time and you get a notification every time there is a problem
Pros
- Notification
- Scheduling
- Synchronization
Cons
- Setup
- Remote control
- One click setup
- I was able to store more data for less money
- I was able to keep more backup versions
- I was abe to cut costs from cloud backup by keeping only the newest backup online instead of several versions
Synology Active Backup Suite is more user friendly than TrueNAS and setting up all the environment for a Raspberry Pi system, its plug and play makes all the setup less complicated and the configuration more manageable. While TrueNAS is a great enterprise solution with a great community and Raspberry PI is complete open source and do it yourself, Synology Active Backup Suite offers the best of both worlds with and easy to use and upgrade with enterprise and small business options.

Evaluating Synology Active Backup Suite and Competitors
Yes - Google drive.
We were using Google Drive to store our data but after reaching the free limit and then having to pay for extra space, the backup was getting bigger and we couldn't afford to keep different versions. Beside that, the access management requires to manually setup folders and individual roles. We couldn't create a group and share specific folders with everyon at the same time, we had to do it one by one.

- Scalability
- Integration with Other Systems
- Ease of Use
The Price per megabyte for Synology is the best on the market and the Backup suit is simple to use. It is easy to setup groups, define where their backups will be saved, set permissions and timeframes for versioning. we use Mac and Windows machines and the installation is very simple.
Because Synology locked our option to buy hard drives from other vendors, this might increase the price compared to other NAS solutions and then, the usability of Active Backup will lose its value. The fact we must buy their own hardware might lead to a re-evaluation of it against competition that might have a more difficult software but a more open hardware choice.
