Overall Satisfaction with Synology DiskStation

It is our primary backup server both on-site and backup to Synology cloud. We also use it to store critical shared documents and media. The Synology DiskStation OK makes management easy and compatibility with windows Active directory is a plus. We are in the process of adding surveillance cameras to our NAS too.

Pros

  • File serving for Windows PC's is outstanding in terms of compatibility and performance and reliability
  • The cloud storage service is like our own private dropbox and very helpful
  • The backup for business make backup a no brainer with backup to the box and hyperbackup providing a off-site cloud backup option to Synology Cloud or a plethora of other options

Cons

  • the Bare Metal restore recovery USB image is missing critical drivers make it necessary to manually add drivers for almost any common systems like Dell optiplex systems.
  • Having a common place to put all our shared stuff less us use less expensive PCs
  • Reliable set-it-and-forget-it. Backup has saved our hides more than once with a quick recovery and return to productivity
  • Management is intuitive and easy. The Synology DiskStation OS id great!
The management interface of the DSM Synology DiskStation OS is very intuitive and easy to use. It's a real time saver for us

The networked windows file share and full featured and provide excellent performance. Indistinguishable from a file share on a windows server in my experience.

The backup services are really top rate and automagic making them outstandingly easy to use.
Synology DiskStation is head and shoulders above WD and Seagate NAS servers I've used. The most immediate standout for me is the user interface on Synology DiskStation is far better. A real user oriented experience.

Performance I get from my Synology DiskStation NAS is much better than I've gotten from prior WD or Seagaate NAS devices.

In terms of reliability, easy of use, and performance it's just simply the best. I really like the perpetual licensing model which I think is far superior to the subscription based models use with other network appliances.

Physical design carried this too. It is so easy to add, swap or manage storage. The tool free design makes this very easy.
