Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance
Our network is comprised of 12 various application servers and many PCs. Unitrends is used to perform the bare-metal backups of this equipment and the daily backups. These are used for disaster recovery scenarios and day-to-day file restores. We have also used the bare-metal feature to quickly deploy new PCs in our environment.
- The scheduling features and options allow for us to easily create custom backup jobs for any situation.
- The "Reports" features allows us to monitor not only the jobs in completed and in progress, but also the space available on the unit and what backups are being stored.
- The "Archive" feature allows us to copy this data to a secondary disk occasionally and move it off-site.
- The management features within the client allow us to push the install of the agent from a central location as well as apply updates to these agents as they are released.
- Generating reports and getting them to Unitrends can be cumbersome. Other programs automate this and that would be a nice feature.
- The proprietary nature of the hardware means we will have to continue to make purchases through Unitrends as we upgrade the system.
- It is one of the more expensive solutions on the market in both initial cost and ongoing support.
- We have a training room which mirrors our live environment. With Unitrends, we were able to build this in hours rather than days using the bare-metal features.
- Using Unitrends, we were able to retire several solutions used to backup servers across several OS versions.
- The Unitrends features allowed us to migrate servers to new hardware, saving time and money.
Unlike some other solutions we looked into, Unitrends was a bundled solution which included hardware and software. Any problems we have with our Unitrends appliance takes one support phone call and there are no issues regarding compatibility or a secondary vendor that may be to blame. We investigated several software solutions and determined a software / hardware solution would be best for us.
