Use Cases and Deployment Scope

With the increasing number of Virtual Machines in Azure we were looking for a way to keep using Veeam Software in our workflow.
With Veeam Backup for Azure we were able to keep levering the Veeam Technology in Azure.

The competing "cloud backup" solution we used was very limited when it came to for example bare-metal restores.

The fact that we could also integrate the Veeam Backup for Azure solution in our onpremise Backup & Replication console was a big plus.

(Azure AD) SSO Integration to the Backup Management Page would be a nice addition

Return on Investment

Time and Cost savings to be able to revert quickly back to a previous state of the VM
We offer solutions in which we rely on the product. It increases our margins while still being easy to implement.

Usability

As always Veeam is Easy to install and configure. Compared to other big players Veeam is always on top of logical UI and naming conventions. Also if in any case you would need support they are always "on point" in providing great support.

Alternatives Considered

Cove Data Protection and Azure Backup

While we have a big Cove Data Protection usage it is simply not able to offer the same functionality as Veeam Backup for Azure, in a case a Azure VM fails to boot due to a configuration error or faulty Windows Update we would not be able to restore it with Cove Data Protection.
With Veeam this is very easy and straight forward.

Compare to Azure Backup it (Veeam Backup for Azure) gives us a lot more flexibility in Backup Frequencies, Types and retention.

When there is need for "bare-metal" restores of a Azure VM is needed , when there is need for granularity regarding backup frequencies and backup types.
