Since we have migrated our production workload to Azure we are using Veeam to backup our azure vm's, databases and Azure storage accounts. This gives us the peace of mind knowing that we are protected in case of an issue or needing to roll back something that went wrong. The backups are easily configured and easy to restore. We like the Veeam product better than the built in backups with Azure.
  • Very easy interface
  • very fast in completing backups
  • Fast implementation and setup
  • almost self explanatory when setting up
  • the only thing I wish that Veeam would do is the ability to combine all services in one platform. We have another backup solution we use for on prem backups to an offline cloud backup source. I wish Veeam had a solution like this, they are implementing Azure resources for backups currently and store in AWS so there is a separation of where data is stored and is offline with ransomware protection. Maybe one day.
So we are using Veeam specifically for our Azure workloads, it works very well for this but for our on prem backups the solution was not suited for what we were wanting at the time we implemented our SaaS backups solutions. The restores for Azure are lightning fast and well suited for our Azure workload.

We have Servers in Azure and we use Veeam Backup for Azure to back them up. Our company has been a customer for a few years and we find the product easy to manage. Azure backup needs a little help and Veeam Backup for Azure fits the bill.
  • uses native Azure snapshots to create image-level backup chains
  • allows for fast backups that reduce the impact on production workloads
  • Veeam Backup for Azure also offers granular recovery options at the file level or entire VM restore
  • We have not runinto any issues other then trying to get lower pricing but we do that with all vendors
We purchased Veeam Backup for Azure for one reason and that was to backup Azure. it was designed for this so we are in good hands. We have never had an issue

We are using Veeam Backup for Azure daily, becasue we need it for backing up our infrastructure which is located in Azure. We didn´t have any problems with this product. We use it to back up our environment. I recommend it to other clients because of its functionality and ease of operation. Veeam has worked very well with our hybrid infrastructure.
  • Backup speed
  • Easy to create backup jobs
  • Simple to restore
  • Easy management
  • Limited reporting
  • Pricing
  • We didn't find any for improvement
Veeam Backup for Azure is perfect for easily create, manage, and automate backups virtual machines, disks, and files. They can also perform granular file-level recovery and full VM recovery in minutes.

As we began to deploy systems in Azure we knew we needed a backup solution. Since we use Veeam B&R for on-premises systems it was a no brainer to use Veeam for Azure. The policy based backup makes it easy to ensure new systems are automatically captured without needing to adjust backup jobs every time.
  • Policy based backup
  • Snapshot retention
  • Backup retention
  • Unaware of systems restored from on-prem. This causes me licensing issues when running DR testing events.
For our purposes I can't particularly find any shortcomings of Veeam Backup for Azure. It has been working well for our needs for a few years now. Maybe for someone with a larger cloud footprint or more complex needs, or maybe someone who wants to be able to deploy and configure the appliance using infrastructure as code it may not be as practical.

I am very exiting using Veeam Backup products at all in almost over 10 years. I'm impressed with the product capabilities. I can say that configuration is very easy and everyone con do it without any special knowledge because Veeam has very detailed documentation how to configure all features. Very great option is possibility to store backup in cloud or locally.

  • It has very simply management and intuitive configuration
  • Very fast backups
  • I like integration with other Veeam products what helps for our hybrid infrastructure
  • What I am using for such moment all is enough and product does well.
For us Veeam Backup for Azure solution is very great as we have implement disaster recovery for our Azure workloads and we are happy with that.
One thing what woud be lower is licensing costs.

We currently use the product initially to back up configurations, In the next few steps we will appli on to virtual machines and then databases.
  • console operation is easy and intuitive
  • console consolidation
  • granularity
  • Occasionally, it can be difficult to understand the cause of a (infrequent) work malfunction unless examining the logs.
In our case, we have a hybrid environment and with this tool we have the possibility of making backups using a single tool. For our organization, the tool complies with the ones we use.

I’ve been a user/manager of Veeam’s on-premise solution for 7 years or more, and in general have been extremely happy with it. The installation is incredibly easy and intuitive, you can just get on with it. Veeam Backup for Azure is less so. Firstly, we needed external support to get this in place. I am sure we could have worked this out ourselves, but time and resources at our end were constrained and buying in professional services days (it took 2 days) was the path of least resistance. Azure in general is more complex than on-premise so I guess that shouldn’t be entirely unexpected, but it is something to consider, as this isn’t simply a case of installing an application, but standing up a virtual infrastructure for it too. Secondly, this does not support multi-subscription/cross-subscription backups. To be fair to Veeam this is most likely down to how Azure works and limitations placed on you by external forces (i.e. Microsoft), however you’d have thought that by now a solution would have been created to allow this to happen (we’ve been running this for about 2 years now). So, we had a choice of either buying another separate set of licensing for the other subscription using Veeam Backup for Azure or another solution such as Microsoft Azure Backup instead for it. We came down on the side of cost, and in this instance ‘free’ won (again, Microsoft). Veeam Backup for Azure has many more bells and whistles on it than Microsoft Backup, and as such I would recommend it, but there are other players in the market now which can manage and maintain your backups for on-premise and cloud, so it is worth shopping around to see what best fits your situation.
  • Multi point snapshots throughout the day
  • Need for cross/multi subscription backups
  • Upgrades
  • Pricing
If you're already a user of Veeam it's a no brainer really. It'll be familiar to you and your team to use which means you can get up and running reasonably fast with this, It's obviously useful having support and licencing all under one banner too, but the cloud solution does seriously lag behind in functionality compared to it's on-premise solution.

We had a few VMs running in Azure that needed to be backed up and Veeam for Azure was the perfect fit for our needs. The setup was very easy and we had no issues getting the VMs backed up with our specific schedule and retention setings. We also tested restores without any issues.
  • Speed of backup
  • Complete backup and restore solution
  • Easy to use
  • Better way to restore from cloud to VMware
  • Easier integration with on-prem workloads
  • More reporting options
Any VM in Azure is a good option for Veeam backup. It is compatible with most operating systems and the setup and configuration of the backup jobs and schedules is very user friendly. We also use Veeam on-prem to backup VMs in our datacenters but we wanted a solution for the cloud hosted workloads as well.

We use Veeam Backup for Azure to protect our server workloads that we run. We have critical VMs that are protected by this solution. We require the ability to recover our Azure VMs quickly and easily.
  • Easy to set up backup policies.
  • Easy to monitor backups jobs.
  • Easy to recover data.
  • GUI layout for showing restore points could be more streamlined.
  • The configuration set up could be laid out better.
Quickly allows for setup of backup policies. The restore process sometimes seems like there are a series of steps which I think could be streamlined.

We use Veeam Backup to back up our critical systems and data. It provides some assurances that we are able to back up and restore against data corruption, accidental deletion, hardware failure, etc. We have been using and relying on Veeam for our backups ever since I started with the company going on 8 years now and would highly recommend it.
  • Secure backups with Immutable Storage.
  • Ability to restore data at the file level.
  • Ability to have multiple restore points.
  • Continue to offer their socket level licenses.
  • Bundle some of features together versus separate products.
Would highly recommend Veeam's Backup products. Ability to have immutable storage, file-level restores and multiple restore points are all key features Veeam provides.

We use Veeam Backup for Azure more for a storage repository. It helps with cost because the cost of storage for a Rack of drives cost more than cloud storage on Azure. It reliable and very quick to recall data as needed. Also, you can get results realtime. This solution seem to be better than the AWS solution. Both were easy to setup.
  • Easy setup
  • Integrates well with on prim solution
  • Migration from on prim to cloud was seemless
  • Integration into Veeam for Azure without logging into Azure
  • One place to view volumes
  • One place to configure/Delete backups/view backups for Azure
When migrating from on Prim to AWS then to AZure the process was a little challenging because of some of the way we configured up front but once we went from AWS to Azure it was no looking back. We didn't have the extra storage to move things around like most companies to but it worked out great and we were also able to store more cold backups on Azure due to the low cost of cold storage.

Veeam Backup for Azure helps us improve our data protection and disaster recovery plans for our Azure workloads, especially our SQL databases on Azure. Now we have a continuous backup log strategy much better than our older backup solution and some scripts that helped us maintain a good backup strategy on Azure.
We use Veeam Backup and Replication on our on-premises data center, so it was easy to integrate and operate Veeam Backup for Azure. There was no learning path for our team. Licensing was not a problem (costs and understanding).
  • Reduce storage costs and minimizing the impact on network consuption.
  • Veaam Backup for Azure provides application-aware backups for Microsoft SQL Server, ensuring that our data is backed up and available for recovery correctly.
  • Replication: Veeam Backup for Azure helps us to replicate our workloads to another Azure region or on-premises environment for disaster recovery purposes and compliance needs.
  • Better documentation about permissions on Azure. It was a bit confusing to find a god documentation about it.
  • There are some Azure features that has no support on Veeam Backup for Azure.
  • Make the azure client integrated into Veeam Backup and Replication to use just a simple console to operate.
Well-suited scenarios for Veeam Backup for Azure: Organizations that have critical workloads running in Azure and require a fast and reliable backup and recovery solution to minimize downtime in the event of a data loss event. Organizations that need to replicate their Azure-based workloads to another Azure region or on-premises environment for disaster recovery purposes. Organizations that require granular backup policies that are based on their specific needs to reduce storage costs and minimize the impact on network bandwidth. Scenarios where Veeam Backup for Azure may be less appropriate: Organizations that do not have any workloads running in Azure and therefore do not require a cloud-native backup and recovery solution. Organizations that have very complex backup and recovery requirements that cannot be met by Veeam Backup for Azure.

I worked on various backup technologies like NetBackup, Commvault, Backup Exec, HPDP, Networker, NetVault, Unitrends, and Microsoft DPM. So I want to give my true review of the Veeam. I've been working in Veeam for Backup & Replication and Veeam Backup for Azure since last year. I recommend Veeam as the best backup solution for virtual machine environments. Its lightweight and user-friendly tool and configuration are very simple and self-explanatory in the console itself. Its capability of doing compression and deduplication at the application and hardware level is best for cost savings. The instance-based license we are using for cloud backup is also used for on-premises VBR backups, as it is a universal license. Restoration steps are as common as others. I can see an advanced feature and option in Veeam called Health Check to test the data integrity of our backups. We recommended Veeam Backup for Azure to our client to backup VM instances, which is the easiest way to create snapshots and retain them with the retention policy rather than doing cloud-native snapshots and restores. Backup to storage tiers like cool, hot, and archive depends on our needs and gives much cost savings. Lastly, Veeam is the best to protect your data more efficiently and securely.
  • Faster backup & snapshot
  • Storage capacity saving by moving the backups to archive tier in cloud storage
  • Faster VM recovery
  • Universal license feature
  • Need more improvement on backup reporting
  • Backup monitoring console should be better
I didn't hear till now any other backup technologies doing well in backup of cloud VM resources rather Veeam Backup for Azure. I have implemented this in Azure and AWS as well and its doing its job very smooth and in efficient manner in saving cost.

I utilize Veeam Backup for Azure as an offsite backup location that can easily be restored from virtually anywhere. I've tested restoring to on premise locations as well as cloud locations and the application works perfectly to fit our needs. Everyone is worried about not being able to keep their data safe, but you easily can keep your data safe when sending the data to Azure as well as your other backup locations.
  • Ease of Use
  • Fast and Simple Restore
  • Ease of Setup
  • Securely Migrates Backups
  • Built-in WAN Acceleration
  • Better naming convention in Azure
  • Ability to pick and choose VMs to send instead of entire storage location
  • Ability to assign multiple storage locations in a single job instead of multiple.
Veeam Backup for Azure is well suited for disaster recovery and business continuity. Veeam Backup for Azure grants peace of mind knowing that your backups are securely stored in the cloud and can be restored easily. Depending on the storage options you've chosen for Azure, you can have hot, warm, and cold backups setup for archival and retention purposes, as well as immediate restoration needs.

We use Veeam to automate snapshots of critical business resources and replicate to recovery hardware. This has contributed to decreased recovery time as well as decreased downtime. The set up and install has been straightforward, the costs have not been astronomical and we are able to backup/replicate to multiple storage arrays on-site as well as the less frequent off-site backups.
  • Adding more endpoints to manage is straightforward
  • Thin client works with Windows and Linux
  • On-site and remote backup locations are supported
  • Some settings require testing before it's clear what impact they have
  • Volume level backup sizes are questionable but seem to work as intended
  • Scheduled backups sometimes fail on the first try (possible user error, unclear)
Veeam Backup has allowed us to take incremental backups of VMs and PCs that require significant up time. These backups are a critical part of our disaster recovery plan and also allow us to replicate/spin up recent copies for testing purposes. They are also useful as an additional recovery option on staff machines where users may store data locally instead on networked storage or SharePoint. It is also useful for the migration of a user setup to newer hardware.

Currently, we have an on-premise deployment of Veeam Backup and Replication. My experience with Veeam Backup for Azure has been everything I'd ever want in a backup software. I'm able to seamlessly recover accidentally deleted files, which may come in handy in the future. I've fallen in love with Veeam's modern user interface, and have no intention of using any other software to back up my files.
  • File Restoration
  • Easy-to-Access Replication Jobs
  • Tape Backups
  • Immutable Backups
  • Tape Backup Bugs
  • Easier file restoration process using backup tapes
  • A "Calmer" way to stop a replication job before it is done.
I'd say the average company that utilizes virtualization within their work environment should be using this service for their replication needs. Each backup is encrypted, which brings peace of mind for those who need those servers to work every day. Veeam backups act a "security blanket" in case of an attack or breach.

The main pro is that the setup is easy, the app registration is as good as automatic as it can get. The hard truth is that Microsoft isn’t responsible if you lose your data. With Veeam Backup for Azure we’re assured that our data safe. We had the pleasure to do restores from OneDrive/Outlook/SharePoint & Teams sites. For potential buyers be aware, that you will need a license for each user that has an smtp address/mailbox that is known by Azure

We use Veeam Backup for Azure having previously used Veeam Backup & Replication for VMWare. It provides VM-level backup and Disaster Recovery for our IaaS estate within Azure. Being able to back up to a different region from the region the VMs are located in was key for us and reducing the cost of this inter-region transfer was important.
  • Once set-up there isn't much ongoing configuration required
  • Cost estimates that update as the backup options are changed
  • Ability to restore VHDs to allow recovery scenarios outside of Azure
  • Documentation around service account permissions was a little sparse when we implemented it
  • It's sometimes hard to get the reason behind a (rare) job failure without going into logs
  • The UI around snapshots and backups could do with some clarity around the restore points that will be available
As we were already using Veeam B&R it made for an easy transition to Veeam Backup for Azure. We wanted a solution that wasn't tied to Azure to avoid lock-in. On the occasions where we have needed to restore certain files, the File Level Recovery has worked without issue. We also regularly test the full VM-level backups.

We use Veeam Backup as part of our formal virtual server backup procedure. We have critical infrastructure in the cloud that we can't afford to lose that holds our applications, databases and file storage areas. We use Veeam as our main backup software. It backs up around 20 virtual machines and 2 storage accounts.
  • It's very reliable, once its setup it continues to run without issue.
  • It's relatively easy to setup, and doesn't need constant tweaking.
  • I can use it on all my workloads, I'm not limited to just VMs.
  • It's still very clunky compared to the older on-prem solution which was very slick.
  • You have to pay for the service and also the storage of the backups, meaning it's not so easy to calculate costs.
  • It's very easy to overspec your backups by having them too often or keeping them for too long meaning you and run into high storage costs.
If you're looking to backup your Azure estate, then Veeam is a good choice. It works well and does exactly what you'd want it to do. It gets constant improvements with every release.
Azure's built-in Backup process is pretty robust and reliable so that might be enough for you, but if you need more control, better visibility and more features then Veeam is definitely one to check out.
