Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365

Every O365 user's mailbox and One Drive is backed up on a daily basis. The company's Sharepoint groups are also included in this backup schedule. This means we have on-site backups of all the company data stored on the Microsoft Cloud.
  • The backup configuration software easily allows the selection of all users' mailboxes and Sharepoint groups so you can configure the software with confidence and quickly see that all of your data is being protected.
  • The explorer applications allow for flexibility in scope and detail when exploring your backup catalogue.
  • I personally find the licensing protocols, including the logic behind the pricing and the method of installing updated licence files to be rather confusing, we have logged this issue twice already.
  • As all online data is potentially chargeable we did ask if there could a data size total for each user and Sharepoint group but we were told there was not sufficient demand for this.
  • I have an outstanding licensing issue on one company installation that our reseller has been unable to resolve for some time. This has resulted in two new employees not being included in the backup, which is very disappointing.
  • I have been able to show other users how to use the explorer tools so that I am not the single point of failure when it comes to data recovery.
As we started to learn about Microsoft Office 365 some years ago, external suppliers emphasized that the Microsoft Cloud did not offer any data backup services. I went to a supplier knowing that I wanted daily backups of the e-mail, One Drive and Sharepoint elements that I could keep locally for as long as I wanted, and Veeam was at the top of the list of recommendations. The trial process was straightforward. I had no serious issues with configuration so the deal concluded quite naturally.
If it allowed me to scope out how much data I had on O365 I would probably give it 10.
We did a lot of work with the explorer applications during testing, so we are more than happy now that we know use how to use the tools and that we are covered in case something bad happens. We have not had such an event just yet.
We have not experienced such an eventuality yet, but we have spent enough time with the tools to know that we have great flexibility in our options should the situation arise.
Covering the elements of MS Office 365 that we rely on heavily: email, One Drive, and Sharepoint. Without this you have to consider more than one product.
Simple configuration that requires near-zero management (apart from the licensing issue). This means more time for tea breaks. Backing up every day, simply and reliably so that I now depend on it.
Fortunately, I went to a supplier that knew the marketplace well enough so that I didn't have to look at other products.
We have had two major issues; backing up to a local NAS, which took some support time, and adding users to a license, which is still unresolved. Overall, we are content though.

Perfect if you want to quickly and easily create a local (i.e. on-site) repository for all of your exposed data on Microsoft's servers. You can also retain this data for years to come and create a detailed company data archive. You can also use the explorer applications to dig into this archive and easily retrieve anything from an e-mail to a document. This solution allows you to have complete control over the whole process, without the reliance on any other parties or products, which is quite a relief in this cloud-based age.
