Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
Over two years ago, we started to use Veeam Backup & Replication for backing up a few virtual VMware servers that were so critical that we wanted to have a second backup besides the Tivoli Storage Manager. After a while, we started to like using Veeam Backup & Replication much better than TSM, and once we bought more storage, we added more and more servers to Veeam Backup & Replication, and the TSM footprint started to shrink. Today we use Veeam Backup & Replication across our organization, for about 90% of our servers and Tivoli is only being used for just a few odd ones.

- Can you make it more affordable?
- Some of the errors are non-descriptive.
- We were able to start with just the infrastructure and hardware we had on hand and grow from it.
- Flexible pricing, to begin with.
We started with a few critical systems that we wanted to have in both TSM and Veeam Backup & Replication, and we grew into having all our 2000+ virtual servers in Veeam Backup & Replication. This reduced the use of Tivoli Storage Manager tremendously. Why? Because it is faster, easier to use and more flexible
Unfortunately, in our environment, we do not use cloud platforms. So, I cannot speak about this.
Tivoli Storage Manager performs OK for file-level backups but, try to do a bare-metal restore, and you are sure to run into some issues with it. The GUI console is excellent for a Windows guy, but to achieve its full potential, you need to be a command-line guru
