Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
Veeam Backup & Replication is being used to back up our company's VMware ESXi host. It is currently backing up eight servers. The business problems it solves are:
- Simple backup job creation and management.
- Backup of the virtual environment.
- Backup to NAS.
- Backup a heterogeneous Windows/Linux ecosystem.
- As a former Backup Exec consultant, I love Veeam Backup & Replication's simplicity.
- The status of backup jobs is easy to find.
- I have not run into any areas requiring improvement.
- ROI is immediate as the cost is $0.
We are currently backing up six servers on a VMware ESXi host. The servers protected:
- 2 x Windows servers
- 4 x Linux
This is about what we expected when we acquired Veeam Backup & Replication. Where we may increase the number of servers quite quickly is in dev servers. New servers can easily be included or excluded from backup jobs as required. The Community Edition can protect up to 10 servers for free. For now, we are going to stay under the 10 server threshold. However, as we grow, we will purchase the full version.
We are not currently using cloud platforms.
We currently do not use this functionality.
In the past, I have been a Backup Exec consultant. It had been interesting seeing Backup Exec being displaced by Veeam. At the time the managers I worked with noted Veeams ease of use and successful backups of virtual environments. At the time(2011 to 2015), I continually ran into unresolvable issues backing up some virtual environments. In contrast, Veeam Backup & Replication has successfully backed up all of our virtual servers with no issues. Additionally, Veeam Backup & Replication was easy to set up. It just made sense.
