Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
Currently using Veeam Backup & Replication to back up on premise Hyper-V Cluster and standalone Hyper-V Servers (Active Directory, SQL Servers, Video Infrastructure) and Hardware Servers running File Shares, Active Directory, and SQL Servers.
We also use Veeam Backup & Replication to back up laptops and desktops for high-value users.
Veeam Backup & Replication provides a solid backup for our on-premise needs organization-wide.

Pros
- Veeam Backup & Replication generally backs up Hyper-V and hardware with few errors.
- Easily allows us to restore to the original location, or to restore to alternate location.
- Updates have generally been very straightforward, causing very little downtime.
Cons
- The change from free agent client for hardware backup to paid agent client has been convoluted, difficult to understand, and the paid version does not work as well as the free version did.
- A recent change in licensing model has been very confusing for us.
- Management of hardware backups is confusing.
- An overall cost-effective software solution.
- It does require hardware that will have to be replaced occasionally.
- Recent changes to licensing did cost us during the changeover. This was unexpected.
Veeam Backup and Replication protects a Hyper-V Cluster and 2 standalone Hyper-V Servers, along with 5 hardware Domain Controllers and hardware SQL Servers. We also use Veeam Backup and Replication to protect about 20 Desktops and laptops for high-value users.
This is more than we originally started with, but not an unexpected figure.

We do not currently use Veeam Backup and Replication for any cloud backup or target. It is not a good fit for us.
We do not use the verification or copy management tool suite at this time.
Veeam Backup and Replication was the direct replacement in our organization for Symantec Backup Exec. Veeam has performed better for us, throwing much less in the way of errors.
