Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

We use Veeam backup and replication to take daily backups of all our virtual and physical servers at our business. We use Veeam B&R to protect all the company data by backing it up to external hard drives and also using Veeam to upload the data to online repositories as well to keep us protected in multiple ways.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • It creates quick and encapsulated backups to multiple locations
  • sends alerts to you via email after backups complete so you know the outcome
  • walks you through how to setup your backups easily with wizard based interfaces
  • They could make it simpler to connect your online respositories
  • they could give you automated ways to confirm your data is restorable
  • giving alerts when you local storage locations are almost full would be nice

Yes

Did implementation of Veeam Backup & Replication go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Veeam Backup & Replication again?

Yes

Currently, we have 4 Virtual servers covered by Veeam and one physical server protecting Veeam as well. This is exactly the server I expected to be used to protect the business when I first purchased it. It does work well enough that if a certain user's workstation becomes critical, I would add a user's workstation to the list of things protected by Veeam as well though.
  • Veeam taking reliable backups has had a huge ROI for us as we were hit with Ransomware 2 times now but were able to restore from it quickly, within a day, which had a huge ROI for us.
  • Veeam giving us peace of mind that we are always protected has been huge for us sleeping well at night which is a great benefit for us.
  • The yearly subscription model for Veeam can be a bit cost-prohibitive for some companies who might prefer a one-time payment model.
When we got hit with a ransomware virus and our previous backup solution was only able to restore our data to a point in time from 3 weeks ago, that showed us we need a better backup solution, and we moved to Veeam. Now we got hit with ransomware again but we were able to restore the server back to the way they were 24 hours ago and only lost less than a day worth of work and were up and running again quickly.
We do take one copy of our backups and send it to the cloud using Wasabi as our online repository. This has helped give us peace of mind knowing an extra encrypted copy of our data lives in a second location outside of our building. We have never had to restore from the online backups yet because on-premise backups have always been faster to restore from, but it's good to know there is another option available if our on-premise solution ever fails.
Yes, we have a fairly large on-premise file share server that we need to backup nightly, so we use Veeam to protect that and allow us to restore the file share with all the appropriate permissions still in place, which saves us a lot of time and makes it so that we don't have to worry about having to recreate everything from scratch ever again.
Veeam B&R is excellent for small and medium-sized businesses who want to backup safely to multiple locations without breaking the budget. Using it in conjunction with something like Wasabi online storage makes it quick and easy to set up. Veeam is not a great option for bigger enterprises [that] have lots of data or need real replication to a failover site, there are more robust options for that.
