Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
We backup 7 virtual hosts and 25 Virtual machines spread across those. Each one backs up to a NAS staggered throughout the week, and then replicates to another offsite backup. We also utilize Veeam cloud backup. Veeam allows us to recover data quickly and efficiently, and protects our patient data.
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
- Virtualized workloads
- Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
- Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Automating test restores to validate recoverability
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
- Automating test restores to validate recoverability
Pros
- The console is easy to use compared to other backup software
- Easily pick and choose which virtual machines to backup
- Scheduling the jobs is a piece of cake
Cons
- The UI could use a dark mode (easier on the eyes)
- Backup jobs could be a bit faster
- Would be nice to have a web console

Yes
Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?
Yes
Did implementation of Veeam Data Platform go as expected?
Yes
Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?
Yes
We are currently backing up 38 virtual servers, 5 physical. Certainly more than we anticipated, but Veeam has kept up with our growth with no issue. Veeam makes it extremely easy to edit backup jobs/schedules so that you can add new or take away old Virtual Machines from the backup job.
- We were able to recover after a virtual server kept crashing after an update
- We have used Veeam to recover specific files after they were deleted
- We were able to save time and effort
We were initially using just Windows Backup. Windows Backup did the job fine enough, but it was not great. We had a lot of issues getting backups to work the way we wanted. Now with Veeam, we are able to schedule jobs very easily, and also recover files with ease.
We only just started using the cloud feature, but it has certainly made it easier to scale out backup jobs and not worry so much about running out of space locally. Even better is we now have 3 places where backups reside which makes it a lot safer. The cloud is also really easy to set up.
We currently use Synology Rackstations at each of our offices. Veeam has made it easier to manage the backups there, and monitor the devices and replication statuses.
