Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
Veeam Back & Replication is our enterprise-wide backup product. We use it to backup all of our production and development servers, running Windows and Linux. We also use it to backup Oracle and SQL Databases and a number of other applications that are critical to our organization's needs.
- Virtualized workloads
- Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
- License portability as your environment needs change
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
Pros
- Easy to use single pain of glass enterprise backup and recovery product
- Replication of backup data to our DR datacenter and into AWS
- Immutable storage of backups to guard against a ransomware attack
Cons
- Mixing of License Types - We currently have to run two servers, one for socket licenses and the second for universal licenses
- Oracle backups took a while to get working

We currently project about 300 various endpoints with Veeam Enterprise Backup and Recovery. This is the expected number of endpoints we expected when we purchased the product. It has lived up to what we expected when we purchased it.
- Positive ROI - It's done what we wanted and been easier to use then we thought
- Had a limited need to open support cases as most things work out of the box
Our prior backup approach was an appliance-based approach from Barracuda. The appliance had a fixed amount of storage that couldn't be upgraded, so once we hit the storage limit, it was time to make a purchase.
We've been using Veeam Backup & Replication to ship copies of our backups to Amazon S3. This gets our data out of the data center to ensure issues in our data center can be recovered. We are also using the immutable storage option in Amazon S3 to ensure our data is protected from a ransomware attack.
We are not big file servers users in our organization, so we haven't benefited from this feature in Veeam Backup & Replication recently. In the past, prior to us decommissioning our internal file servers, we used this feature, and it worked well.
