Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

We used to use Veeam Data Platform to backup our critical infrastructure like servers and VMs. It is a great tool if you have plenty of on prem storage. I'm sure it has a lot of great features if you either have someone on staff who knows it inside and out but if you work for a smaller company like me and wear many hats in your job it's harder to know if you are using it to its full potential. We ended up switching to an alternative cloud based back up product as it seems to be more intuitive.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
  • Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
  • NAS filers
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Backups are easy to setup
  • Policies are simple to assign
  • Recovery is easily accessible
  • Lots of tools but not very intuitive to set up
  • Couldn't figure out immutable backups
  • Updating to newer version is kind of a chore

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

When we used Veeam Data Platform, it protected about 3 servers and 10 VMs. We definitely should have had it back up more things but didn't have the time or man power to get around to it so we just stuck with backing up the most important things. We have since switched to a cloud based backup platform.
  • Its affordable
  • It works well once it's setup
  • Wasn't sure if we were utilizing it properly
Our organization experienced notable benefits from Veeam Data Platform's cloud capabilities. With around three servers and ten virtual machines, we found that Veeam Data Platform's seamless integration with the cloud greatly enhanced our backup processes. Storing backups in the cloud provided an added layer of security, and leveraging the cloud for disaster recovery ensured that our critical data remained accessible and protected in the event of any unforeseen incidents.
While our organization didn't actively utilize the NAS/File-share backup feature within Veeam Data Platform, we recognize its significant potential for safeguarding unstructured data. This capability could prove invaluable for organizations managing extensive file-sharing environments, offering a comprehensive solution for ensuring the security and recoverability of critical unstructured data assets.
It's a great option if you have the time to figure it all out and get it setup properly. It's not very expensive and is a good solution for backups and data retention. If you don't have a ton of data you need to backup or potentially restore you'd probably be better off with a cloud based service.
