Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We use Veeam Backup and Replication to back up all of our servers, and then it replicates up to the cloud in Azure. Veeam integrates with Nutanix AHV, which we use to manage our VMs. If we ever have an issue, we know we can easily restore our servers using Veeam.
Pros
- Veeam's interface is very user friendly.
- Manages and restores backups easily.
- Integrates with other products/application such as Nutanix.
- Able to replicate backups to Azure or other cloud services.
Cons
- We've had an issue with backups failing due to a password change on the account that's logging in to Veeam. The error message you receive when this happens isn't very clear.
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
- Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
- Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
We currently use Veeam to back up our virtual servers, physical Nutanix, and HP servers, and we replicate those in Azure in the cloud.
- Veeam saves us time by not having to physically go to our server room and change out tapes daily.
- Veeam makes human mistakes less likely since it doesn't require us to change out tapes daily like our previous backup method.
When moving over to using Nutanix AHV to manage our virtual workloads, we sought an easier way to manage the backups. When researching, we saw that Veeam easily integrates with Nutanix.
All of our servers are being replicated to Azure using Veeam. We are a manufacturing plant so disasters could easily happen that would cause us to be unable to restore to our physical servers. Since Veeam replicates to Azure, restoring our servers would be easy and quick.
