Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

We have been using Veeam backup and replication and office 365 backups for several years now. Both products are very robust and do an excellent job, backups are easy to configure and manage and the restore process is super quick and easy.

Pros

  • Backing up VMs quickly
  • Restore process is a breeze
  • Managing backups and storage is intuitive

Cons

  • Office 365 backups, it would be useful if you could specify multiple repos. I'm not aware this is possible.
  • The pricing structure is quite transparent, but it's not a cheap product
  • Notification of updates would be really useful
  • being able to do updates has got better, previously you needed to download a massive ISO to do an update and msi or exe would be much nicer.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • NAS filers

Around 200 virtual, 30 physical, no cloud.
  • never considered a ROI.
Reviewed options available at the time and Veeam fitted the criteria, the price was competitive so we purchased. It fulfils all our needs so we have not considered moving away despite price rises and licensing model changes.
A little we back some file systems up to cloud storage, i'm not convince how well de-dupe works in the cloud and on occasions i find myself running out of defined space so need to re-create the storage.
Yes we do use this feature, Veeam is very quick and efficient at backing up this data and it's a breeze recovering with a simple gui able to browse for files.
I've not used any competitor products we have used some open source scripts to back up vms and we continue to use these for archiving and portability purposes.

Backing up virtual machines is fantastic, backing up file structures less so. As already mentioned being able to back my offic365 data up to two sources would be advantageous. We also backup some physical windows pcs with Veeam, it's less suited to this, it would be nice to have more granular features for this type of backup. I tested out the tape feature within Veeam backup and replication with and autoloader and it was very poor.
