Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We use Veeam to protect our servers, NAS data and our office 365 data. I consider this an integral component of our infrastructure and sleep much better at night knowing that my data is always being protected in case I need to restore.
We have used the individual file restore for staff accidental file deletions on the file server and it has been a life saver!

Pros

Cons
- I wasn't able to get surebackup working
- Sometimes I have to manually clean up old backups to make room for new ones
- Subscription renew process can be confusing
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- NAS filers
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware

This is more, we have begun segmenting workloads out to more VMs rather than one hosting multiple roles. This has led to a direct increase in the number of backup jobs we need to run

- An intangible amount of time and money. a tech was working late and accidentally used diskpart on the wrong volume of the file server. Everything lost. Veeam had the data restored before business started the next morning
Cost.
The prior solution was costing us north of $30k a year and support was abysmal. The product hadnt seen an update in years.
Veeam is much more affordable while providing a level of support that is not even comparable. Veeam support totally knows what they are talking about and can be trusted.
Veeam is constantly innovating and adding new features to the platform. I am more pleased to invest in a company that is actively building and improving the product.

Veeam backs up our critical infrastructure and replicates these backup points to BackBlaze.
This has been a giant improvement in our Disaster Recovery plan. We can rest assured knowing that the data is being properly replicated to an off-site location in the event the local data is not able to be of use in restoration

We have Veeam backing up some SMB shares from our NAS and File Server. This has been crucial for quick file restore purposes when staff accidentally rename a directory or overwrite their changes, we can easily roll back to the prior version. This is an often event for us and it is a great tool
Cheaper, and supported. We had a bad experience with Carbonite being seemingly abandoned. It was difficult to use and support seemed non existent. We would have backups failing and help was not existent.
Veeam on the other hand has been the complete opposite. Always helpful and their support representatives are knowledgeable
