Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We use Veeam Data Platform as backup software to back up our virtual environment both to local storage and to the cloud. This solves issues related to data loss and disaster recovery. It does this seamlessly and verifies backups, so we always know we have trusted backups.
Pros
- Backs up VMWare.
- Local Backups.
- Proxy to different networks.
- Copy local backups to cloud block storage.
Cons
- Forced to use Windows.
- Version upgrades have had issues.
- Virtualized workloads
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
We are in the hundred range of virtual workloads plus a few cloud workloads, including our Microsoft 365 environment.
- Allowed for a proper incident response plan.
- Provides business continuity in case of incident.
We had a ransomware event, and we realized we didn't have a robust solution to restore in every situation. We successfully recovered from it, but we needed to expand how we did backups, and Veeam helped with that.
We use cloud block storage through Backblaze for immutable backups, which ensures that we will always have a copy of our backups available in any situation.
All of our data is hosted inside virtual machines, so we have not used this feature.
