Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We backup our on-premises VMware server structure. It is a disaster recovery fail safe that gives us peace of mind that we can recover in a reasonable amount of time. Hopefully we don't need it, but backups are one of the most important aspects to consider in keeping ourselves operational.

- Veeam Data Cloud Vault Integration
- Accelerated Change Detection
Cons
- Complex Licensing and Pricing Structure
- Limited Support for Certain Databases and Platforms

- In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
- Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Automating test restores to validate recoverability
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- Automating test restores to validate recoverability
We currently have 15 physical workloads protected by Veeam Data Platform. I was not with the company when they rolled out this backup service, but our needs have grown since I've been here. It has to be more they originally anticipated. We also have some growth and cloud moves incoming that will require more than we currently use.
- Reduced Downtime and Faster Recovery
- Improved Compliance and Audit Readiness
- High Initial Investment and Licensing Complexity
They were hit by a crypto locker virus in 2022 and relied on external hard drives for archiving data and thumb drives to move files around the office. With proper backups they could have removed the problematic device and restored from backups and been fully operational within a few hours.
We've been using Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and it has come in handy several times for restoring files from users email and sharepoint files. We will be moving to the cloud with our ERP and several other workloads in the next couple of year, so we will need Veeam Data Platform more as we grow.
Yes, as a promotional products printing company we are heavy on artwork and customer communication retention on our file server. Unstructured data is a huge majority of our storage. Veeam Data Platform backing up from via VMware has been substantially quicker doing OS backups. This should also make restores quicker if they are ever needed.
I used Quest at my previous employer and it was wonderful. Their pricing increased over the years while not offering any new features. We looked at their new offering (qorestore and netvault), but that was significantly more expensive than Rapid Recovery so we looked at other options. Finally deciding on Veeam Data Platform for being more cost effective and offering excellent features.
