Vertex saved us tens of thousands of dollars every year

There was some difficulty with the way that we originally set up Vertex between Netsuite and BigCommerce. Since we are using store credit in BigCommerce, we were having problems with Vertex taxing that item, when it needed to be ignored. We jumped on a call with a representative and were able to figure out how to fix this, by taxing individual lines on sales orders instead of the sales order as a whole. This solution, although challenging at first, provided immense improvements to our tax issues.

We have recently switched to Vertex, and have not grown much yet, and we are not planning on extending beyond the borders of the United States, but one incredibly important benefit to Vertex and its scalability is that we have locked in our pricing for three years, even if we have tremendous growth. They are not seeking to penalize us and charge us more if we grow in the next three years, which is very much appreciated.

We have very complicated tax rules for our business, which took some time to set up in Vertex's software, but now it is running almost perfectly smoothly, but there are still sales orders that we need to go in and check the difference in sales tax since we are using two different systems. Without being in two different systems I wouldn't see any need for manual adjustments to sales orders

Vertex is the most customizable software that we've found, especially for the price. We have many complex tax rules, with food, clothing, and digital items that are taxed differently in different states. We also have tax exempt customers who are not able to be taxed, which can make taxing software much more complex. Vertex is a much better solution for these issues than other tax softwares that we've found. Other softwares did not allow us to grant exemption to some states or products. Vertex works much better for complex businesses, or businesses that are hoping to expand in the near future (since switching softwares can be arduous)
