Overall Satisfaction with Vertex

I use Vertex on demand for the computation, validation, and reporting of all sales and purchase transactions in North America as well as the tracking of all sales tax exemption certificates. Vertex is set up to communicate with our SAP ERP systems. We have recently upgraded from Vertex version Q to Vertex on demand.

Pros

  • Tax rates are updated timely
  • Ability to right tax rules to customize our complex business transactions
  • Computations are accurate

Cons

  • Customer service could be much better
  • Does not have connectors with all the ERP systems that are used in our company
  • Vertex mapping categories could be expanded
  • Helpful tools to use for sales and use tax audits
  • Satisfied customers since they are being charged proper sales tax
  • Vertex can handle a large volume of transactions
You can write tax rules to handle complex tax scenarios. Tax rules are not always the easiest to write and implement, but they are always available.
Vertex scalability is available as long as it is an ERP system that Vertex has a connector for. The number of connectors is more limited than some of the competitors of Vertex.
The Vertex software can assist the business to streamline your indirect sales and use tax processes. It can also be used to assist in the automation of the sales exemption tax certificates as long as your customer master file is updated and in good shape.
I personally find Avalara to be more straightforward and user friendly. I personally find Vertex to be more powerful and customizable.

Great for tax calculations and tracking exemption certificates. Need to improve resolving help desk tickets and working with customers to resolve issues they are having with the tax software.
