Overall Satisfaction with VMware ESXi
VMware ESXi provides the core backbone to hosted private cloud applications and services. It hooks into a multi-clustered VSphere and SRM environments.
- Hypervisor boot speed
- Ability to run deprecated server operating systems (Centos 3,4, NT, XP, Windows 2000) in a contained environment.
- Excellent documentation available freely online.
- License fees of the tie-in infrastructure products are expensive.
- Free license version makes it difficult to patch.
- Hyper V can support more host physical memory than ESXi.
- Good links with third party vendors e.g Cisco means ESXi has specific images built with drivers for the vendors.
- Works in a converged or hyper-converged environment.
- Ability to build Regional VSphere Clusters.
- Hyper-V and Citrix Hypervisor (formerly XenServer)
ESXi has much better performance in real-time than Hyper-V. Performance with XenServer is comparable, however, ESXi has more functionality on offer and more mature monitoring services.
