Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard Network Security

We use WatchGuard Network Security firewalls with Security Suite to monitor all traffic on campus and prevent issues from the start. Their Intrusion Prevention Service actively scans for potential threats like spyware and SQL injections. We use this alongside their Gateway Antivirus to identify and block all known viruses, trojans, worms, rogueware, and blended threats.

Pros

Cons

  • The WebBlocker often has false positives, blocking sites that shouldn't be.
  • I wish the dashboard had links to allow you to drill down into each service.
  • I wish there was a way to pull logs from Traffic Monitor.

  • Allows for manpower to be devoted elsewhere
I do like being able to monitor everything from one login. As I mentioned earlier however, it would be nice if you could simply drill down into each service from the single pane of glass dashboard screen. This would make it easier to see what is going on from the graphs and then be able to enter the service with a single click.
Each of these systems have already been in place at former employers when I transitioned. While each one has its benefits and drawbacks, as a whole, they all do a great job providing protection against malicious intent. I would say that WatchGuard Network Security is much easier to navigate than Cisco in my experience.

Yes

WatchGuard Network Security works fantastic for Intrusion Prevention. It performs near flawlessly as a firewall. The WebBlocker on the other hand leaves much to be desired however. With little in the way of granular filtering, it makes it difficult to manage. We eventually ended up subscribing to a secondary filtering tool for added protection.
