Good for letting your investors, employees and others know at a glance how your company is doing. The interface is clean and organized well. I just wish more of the app's functionality was available for testing and implementation. "Coming soon" is not really encouraging when we already have been waiting for a year or more.

Entrinsik Informer

It makes creating queries very easy for end users so not only research or technicians can do it. The availability for creating Live reports that are accessible via Excel on the network has given many of our users the ability to get the information they need in a format they can use without needing someone to translate the raw data

Pros

  • Grouping several apps in one place for easy viewing.
  • Clean dashboard interface that looks uncluttered when viewing several apps at once.
  • Setting up the apps is a breeze when the platform supports them.

  • Informer is pretty user-friendly. When teaching other employees how to use Informer, I typically don't have to repeat any steps or further explain how to do certain tasks because of how user-friendly it is.
  • Reports in Informer are kept in a list that can be filtered by user, specific tags, or even by how recent the report was made or run. This makes it very quick and easy to find and run a specific report.
  • Informer has many options for downloading the report output, including text (txt), comma separated values (csv), and even PDF.

Cons

  • Integration with apps that are listed. Some of them are not supported yet and it seems the wait is taking longer than I'd like.
  • iPhone support. It would be nice to have this in the app store. Not available as of 04/25/2018.

  • Informer has room to grow in the dashboard delivered. While helpful and visually pleasing, they are not as robust as some of the other solutions that are more focused on the dashboards. The API leaves the opening for well-resourced organizations to enhance this area on their own.
  • We make it a point to show Informer as a list generator and not a fully fleshed out report writer. There is room to grow here as well. It just so happens our users are much more used to extracting the data than generating a publishable report directly out of the Informer product.
  • Over the years, Informer has expanded its capability to meet all of the needs initially. Some of the things I initially saw as weaknesses was because it didn't fit into the vision Entrinsik had set for its product.

Hands down, Informer is the best ROI our university has ever had. Our day to day operations thrive on the data, and the product contributes regularly to our strategic decisions and plans as a university

I use it on a regular basis and it is very simple. The only time I struggle is if I am trying to write a complex report. Our admins write most of the reports, so this does not happen often.

Support was helpful in the beginning but no longer needed because I didn't use the software as much. The experience that I did have with support was very friendly but not enough to give a good review. If the support team was called for initial setup, video chat or messenger app was used.

Entrinsil's support is prompt courteous and accurate. They usually resolve my issues within a day. On the rare occasion where my issue is related to a bug, bug fixes are also handled extremely quickly

Every UAPB administrative office on campus, every UAPB campus budget manager, and every UAPB Ellucian Colleague user on campus does utilize Informer reporting in some way.

Alternatives Considered

I actually chose QuickBooks (currently using) and Method (used for a month) before deciding that 9 Spokes is just good for looking at a few apps in one place. I'll keep checking back with them to see if they have improved. I wouldn't be surprised if 9 Spokes improves their product within the next 6-12 months.

The closet thing we had to Informer before was something called Query Builder. However, unless you were really good at coding and technology, it was like reading greek to the basic user of our system. Informer provides such an easy user experience that most people who were intimated about the new product at first, were surprised at how quickly they were able to figure it out and jump right in writing their own personalized reports

Collaboration and Sharing

Access control capabilities are OK. Ease of sharing is great because the app design is made special for that purpose. I haven't dove that far into the app enough to generate reports. Formatting is very flexible because 9 Spokes allows the user to customize how the info is displayed. Security or lack thereof is not a factor for me so I am unable to give feedback on security.

Because of the security, we are able to build reports for our end users. My staff have written over 2,000 reports, but have only published 200 that are "self-service" for our end users. We might use Informer to build internally used reports. Also, we strive to write simple and flexible reports for our end users so that they have to learn fewer reports. We use "parameters" inside Informer to allow them to chose options such as ID, year, city, state, etc

Data Integration

I gave 9 Spokes a five because the range of data sources is minimal. Ease of merging data from disparate sources is pretty good for the ones they do support. I just want to have more apps available for arranging on their nice looking interface. Perhaps next year my review for 9 Spokes will be better than 5

The enhanced usability of the dashboards with multiple datasources, like Google Docs has helped; the ability to use the underlying reporting tool on Google Docs would be used if it were available. Otherwise, we have connected SQL and UniData databases with ease.
