Adobe Experience Manager

CQ is best suited for multi-site projects that require frequent updates or new pages spun up very quickly and with the same quality as the rest of your site. It's also a great fit if you have extensive media libraries: pictures, videos, etc. The Digital Asset Manager is very powerful and if it's coupled with a CDN, it can be itself a great solution for that particular purpose alone.Key questions to ask would be:- How comfortable will our authors be with this publishing platform? What are their needs and wants? Can CQ accommodate them?- How skilled is our development team to take a project like CQ? The best of CQ comes when is customized but it will come with a price. Time and talent will be necessary to tweak it to the right fit.- Do we have enough time and resources to allow our technical and non-technical stuff to learn? Can we afford all the oficial training levels?

  • The Pegboard platform does not limit the design and feel of a website. As web designers and developers we have the ability to design a unique looking website through the construction of HTML template pages which are then integrated with the Pegboard CMS.
  • The Pegboard platform provides a large range of modules for integration by designers into a website. The modules that are used depend on the requirements of the website - there is no limit to the number of modules that can be used.
  • The online CMS management console is easy to use. A client can manage their website content with as little as a half day training session.
  • The Pegboard CMS is a high-end web platform that provides the opportunity to integrate a company’s back-end systems like CRM, accounting and inventory software with their website - providing a business administration efficiencies.
  • The Pegboard CMS provides all of the modules that other CMS provide and include: News, RSS feeds, advanced forms, SEO, blog, banner ads, document management, SMS enablement, image galleries, jobs, membership, broadcasting, polls, event management, forums, product catalogue, eCommerce, e-Marketing, social media
  • The CMS provides the ability to tailor content for certain users - ie. specific information for members, limited information for the general public. There is no limit to the number of types of users.
  • Pegboard's partner program provides access to a network of other developers and programmers that can be called upon to provide their expertise in their area of specialty.

Cons

  • Components were introduced to reduce the development & authoring time by reusing them. With some clients, it worked very well because they had page structure and content like that. But if you have UI requirements that can not support component re-usability then your life will be difficult. You will end up creating more and more components in the hope that they will be utilized one day some where on some page... Although you can achieve re-usability by creating smaller customizable component but then again it will increase your development time. In a Nutshell, you will not save development time.
  • Osgi was a great concept. AEM Developer used to write the most of business logic in them but due to adaptation of micro-services, now everybody wants to implement business logic in there instead of AEM internal OSGi. If your architecture had micro services then power of Osgi is useless for you, you will just use 10-20% of it which will bring no big value.
  • License of AEM is super costly, not every organization can afford it. Once you have implemented AEM, it will be hard to get rid of it. Getting rid will mean another investment.
  • Like other products, AEM also releases new versions. Upgrades to new versions never happens smoothly. Means organization needs to spend more money to upgrade the servers.
  • You need a big infrastructure to deploy AEM server setup. Each setup needs at least 3 machines, one for author, one for publisher and one for dispatcher. This means spending more money on maintenance.
  • TouchUI is confusing sometimes for everyone i.e business, authors, developers.

  • The Pegboard platform is a high-end CMS solution and so requires a high level of knowledge of HTML and CSS. It is not suitable for graphic designers with a limited knowledge of these web languages.
  • As a partner I have access to the Pegboard developers helpline - phone or online ticket system. At times I have found that their assistance has been a little on the slow side. This could be improved. I also feel that they expect a higher level of programming ability than we as a partner may necessarily have.
  • We have used the Pegboard Build department to assist us with the development of some aspects of our client’s websites. This build service could improve their communication with partners so that outcomes could be achieved more easily.

Adobe CQ has training classes that you can be in or watch to get a better understanding. They have some of the best customer support so if you run into any problems you can just contact them put a ticket in and they will fix it or work with you to fix the problem or issue you are running into.

The Pegboard platform offers our company the ability to offer a greater level of design than any other platform. And this, combined with the superior functionality that the platform offers, enables us to provide a web solution to companies requiring a high-end website for their business. Without the Pegboard platform we would not be able to provide a top-end solution to those clients that require it.

Usability

I personally feel that AEM is very intuitive to use from an authoring standpoint. The entire CMS was engineered around the author. Everything about AEM is geared to helping authors generate and maintain content. There are ways that tool tips can be customized so that any individual could simply hover over and be guided step by step on how to author web content

Implementation

Depending on your individual needs, It is really quite simple to create an authoring experience for a website that looks really good. I have been part of many implementations and many teams and have seen many projects that were super successful and others that were not implemented well. AEM has room for a lot of flexibility in the implementation process compared to other CMS like SharePoint

Alternatives Considered

Have used a handful of other content management systems, all of which tend to be either proprietary or freeware -- and the latter presents a security issue. Adobe Experience Manager is easily the most feature-rich content management system I have used, but more features sometimes comes with inconveniences -- taking longer to load when accessing remotely (times out on slow Internet connections), slower taxonomy tagging, etc. It is also the most well-supported system I have used; Adobe is more responsive than most if glitches happen or in response to changes in Google practices for SEO, etc

Pegboard provides a superior ability to customise the design of a website and offers a greater level of functionality. The other web platforms reviewed all use their own design templates that can then be customised. We have recommended these other 2 platforms to some clients that are happy with an existing template design and therefore benefit from some potential lower cost. These other platforms do provide a lesser level of functionality.

Return on Investment

  • Lead generation through rapid campaign launches
  • Reduce the reliance on IT
  • Regular content refresh making the company more active and present

  • Mosaic Studios is a relatively new partner of the Pegboard platform. The platform has enabled us to provide a sophisticated web solution to a number of our clients - helping us to provide a more complete service. Without the ability to offer this high-end web solution we could have potentially lost a number of clients.
  • Pegboard has broadening the web solutions that we can recommend to clients - and therefore the platform helps us to attract new clients and to retain existing clients.
