Adobe Premiere Pro

Great for people with a decent knowledge of video editing who already understand the basics, but it's not quite as well-suited for those who may be beginners. I have used Premiere Pro for projects ranging from 30 seconds long to an hour plus. It handles anything I can throw at it. But (aside from simple resizing or exporting a clip to a different format) almost anything I do in Premiere Pro takes a decent amount of setup.

We use it in standard trainings for creators. We also use it for exceptions training where a certain concept is either more difficult for some creators to grasp, or too nascent yet and needs a more focused visual explanation.

Pros

  • The seamless integration with After Effects makes it simple to import After effects projects directly to your project library.
  • I really like the ability to edit audio directly, either through an integration with Audition or directly in Premiere Pro.
  • The export features make it easy to export your sequences or project to any format you need.

  • Makes training more engaging for our creativity students
  • Easy to use, so we can get the message of what they need to learn across without the constraints.
  • Adoption - we can create a video short of a concept we need to better clarify in literally minutes.

Cons

  • Maybe they could provide some more easier-to-use effects in their presets library.
  • I don't have any other cons that I can think of.

  • Great visual tool that lets you intelligently communicate what you are seeking to explain to your audience. More features I might suggest would be anything that makes it more interactive with the viewer in real-time.
  • For the price , it is a great deal as is.

I used to use Final Cut Pro. But shortly after Final Cut Pro X came out, I switched to Premiere Pro. Mainly because I graduated college and used Windows PCs instead of using the Macs available to me in college. However, I quickly got comfortable in Premiere and found that I liked it way more than Final Cut Pro X. Both have their special features but I feel that Premiere is more accepted in the video editing industry and has more robust features

Camtasia is what we used before, and we still use it for longer videos. But for training we found we needed something powerful yet much simpler to use. Animoto also is great for still shots, images, snippets of content that can be created very quickly without any heavy editing work.

Return on Investment

  • Projects get done faster.
  • We're able to spend less money on various tools outside of Adobe's products.
  • Less expensive than many other NLEs.

  • Positive as it is so simple to use, and even helps discover where a creative student would benefit far more with a more focused visual.
  • Positive as it is - seriously easy to drop in content and create a video short on any topic, in literally minutes!
