Xero

Xero is well suited for any small business. Reconciliation with online bank statements is very strong. It allows for segmentation of revenue/expenses by service line which is useful if you are a multi-location or multi-division small business, although some larger companies may find the service line feature to be a bit simplistic (it works for us though)

  • Clean easy to navigate interface
  • Excellent and accurate customer service
  • Easy to get activated for both customer and vendor relations

  • Reconcilliation via automated feeds to our different online banking systems (chequing account, credit card, paypal) is a breeze and has lots of time saving features.
  • User Interface is very slick and makes data entry speedy.
  • Reporting is very strong and segmentation by Service Line, Product Item Code, etc., is useful for analyzing different parts of the business.

  • When submitting an invoice and error is generated the error is not too clear on how to fix the issue
  • Ability to scan or upload PDF invoice to customer
  • Email confirmation that invoice has been successfully submitted

  • From time to time (once or twice a year) the feeds that serve bank data to Xero break. Fortunately you just have to wait for Xero to remedy them.
  • Payments that come through via the Invoicing feature do not automatically reconcile - I think it would be useful if a client paid an invoice via credit card/Paypal to have the payment automatically reconciled to the outstanding invoice.

I don't really have more to add. It is simple, cost-effective, and does what we need it to do. It is rapidly improving to address the drawbacks, such as weak reporting. Besides, converting accounting software is a major project, and I would only do it if there was a compelling reasons

It simply is incredibly usable with excellent drill down features. The dashboard is highly configurable. Transactions are now even easier to find with the new Global Search feature. Documents can be attached to transactions. We use Bills Entryless to transfer documents to Xero without keying the data. Visibility to reports (the old style takes seconds). The newer reports are more RAM hungry so there can be a 10 second or so lag while the report is compiled. Usually old style reports deliver what our clients need in a flash

We have been actively using and 100% Xero based for our ecommerce accounting practice for over 4 years. There has on been one real outage for more than 5 minutes. Xero was open and transparent about the outage, what they were doing to resolve the issue, and provided 15 minute updates. Showing how they care about their customers and partners. Plus, showing that their customers care too, were understanding, and went surfing or in our case took a nap. Couldn't run our business without Xero as a partner.

All of Xero's training is online and available for anyone (business owner or accountants) to learn and become experts in their system. There is a range of content from product training to real world webinars from their partners. Xero is beautiful accounting software and their training is the same.
