Amazon AWS

AWS CloudFormation is well suited for scenarios where all of your resources need to be provisioned on AWS but it is not suited for hybrid cloud deployments. It's very easy for someone new to learn. The level of customization offered as part of the template specifically for AWS services is great. There is also a UI tool where we can drag and drop the services we want and it generates an yaml file which is very easy to use. The visibility of stacks and its resources and one place where we can track and identify the issues in deployment is great.

Cisco

Cisco Intersight has been able to track workflows from all sections and has exhausted drawbacks that used to affect application performance. The customer support team has been in touch with our IT team when there is operation challenges. It has created powerful hybrid cloud engine that enhances faster planning and effective decision-making with real time insights. I recommend the use of this platform to other companies for flexible deployment of applications and automations.

Additional Details

There is no additional charge for using AWS CloudFormation with resource providers in the following namespaces: AWS::*, Alexa::*, and Custom::*. In this case you pay for AWS resources (such as Amazon EC2 instances, Elastic Load Balancing load balancers, etc.) created using AWS CloudFormation as if you created them manually. You only pay for what you use, as you use it; there are no minimum fees and no required upfront commitments. When you use resource providers with AWS CloudFormation outside the namespaces mentioned above, you incur charges per handler operation. Handler operations are create, update, delete, read, or list actions on a resource.

Usability is great! All of Cisco's tools/services are easy to navigate and use. I was able to essentially master Cisco in a few weeks of use in my day-to-day work. Cisco is especially a great fit for my company, so usability is good for us. We manage multiple UCS servers, and Cisco is great for this. We are always able to get what we need to do done in a timely manner.

I have had servers TAC cases open for issues with Cisco Intersight. Some have yet to be resolved. One case that is still open is where the HCL status ( Hardware Compatibility List ) shows not validated when It should be. We have several servers that have the exact same hardware, OS, and the same firmware. One server will show the HCL is not validated but all others will

We didn't look into anything else as Cloudformation was "built-in" for AWS, it just kind of made sense to go with that. Terraform was something that we briefly looked into Terraform but decides to stick with Cloudformation because our task was relatively "simple". Apparently if it's a bit more complex, Terraform might be the way to go.

There are no other products that I am aware of that we have tried for our Data Center infrastructure as the "main", consolidated interface, apart from the default web management consoles that are already built-in or came along with the package so to speak.

The pricing model of Cisco Intersight was best as compared to other products. Their licensing terms were suitable and better for our budgets. When we compared the billing and ROI we found that it was more profitable as compared to other tools on the market. I would not champion for any pricing terms changes from my experience since everything is planned positively.
