AWS Security Hub

AWS Security [Hub] is well suited when the work is related to security threats, breaching, and preventative measures. It is for you if you want to organize, aggregate, and prioritize findings from AWS services which you enabled as Amazon Inspector or Amazon Macie. It is not suitable for those peoples who need to get findings or insights based on past data. If you are looking for findings summarized feature then you can't use AWS Security Hub because that feature is missing in AWS Security Hub.

PagerDuty

Well suited scenarios:- It is helpful in monitoring and in the aggregation of alerts - It helps in sending sign to take appropriate actions once the threshold is achieved.Less suited scenarios:- It doesn’t have ‘default route’ option unlike some of its competitors which makes it time consuming.
- It has a high per user cost as compared to its competitors

PagerDuty

  • Great scheduling capability. You can define very precise schedules for your agents and PagerDuty will condense that down into a simple on-call schedule.
  • PagerDuty will integrate with just about anything. They have a fantastic API and a huge library of integrations already built, plus the ability to use good old email.
  • The live call routing feature, while an extra add-on, is an awesome extension to PagerDuty.

PagerDuty

  • Adjusting a schedule when people join or leave a team can be annoying when attempting to get a schedule to put a certain person on a certain calendar week.
  • While it has gotten better, there were issues with PagerDuty coming as new numbers and users thinking it was spam and ignoring/blocking the numbers. Took some user training.
  • Even when you know where the schedules are in PagerDuty, navigating to them from the main page takes some effort.

I can reach support via email or online chat functionality. It helped me in the initial configuration and also how to best setup. The response time is very fast for any question I brought forward. The support analysts were very knowledgeable about the products and its functionality. They were respectful of what stage of use the customer is at.

AWS Security Hub is stacked up against all other platforms because of its wide range of features and quality of features. Their contact support is also too good and very interactive to helps us when we stuck at problems. AWS Security Hub is very good because in one place we organize and aggregate the securities alerts and findings from multiple AWS services.

PagerDuty

When we selected PagerDuty, we evaluated a few other solutions including Moogsoft, BigPanda, VictorOps and Splunk Enterprise. We decided on PagerDuty specifically for the automated on-call escalation capabilities. At the time when we subscribed to PagerDuty, event management was still very early and it was not a core strength. In comparison, event/alert management is a core competency of the other platforms. However, in the other platforms lacked automated on-call capabilities or partnered with PagerDuty to deliver the capability. To carry two solutions didn't make financial sense at the time. Therefore, we went down the path of PagerDuty leveraging the beta event management capabilities. Since then, the event management capabilities are very sound and exactly what we need.

  • PagerDuty has had a positive ROI on the overall business because it notifies on call users ahead of time to allow them to resolve incidents before the business starts. This is critical for time-sensitive dependent businesses.
  • PagerDuty saves time and effort for the Tech Operations support who monitors all the applications 24/7. Upon an alert, the user is notified before a Tech Operations person realizes there is a problem.
  • PagerDuty allows on call users to quickly acknowledge, manage and resolve incidents on their mobile app.
