BuzzCast

BuzzCast is great for large, complex online events - especially during the pandemic when it's been hard or impossible to gather folks in person. If you only need a smaller group of 5 or 10 people, BuzzCast is probably overkill. Once you have lots of people / multiple sessions, or want to capture and save presentations for later, you'll want to start looking at BuzzCast.

Whova

The Whova app provides a multitude of options and details that would be useful for any professional development conference like the annual FCIS Conference. The features that allow attendees to see all offerings and select those that will best support their learning during the conference make it helpful and a worthwhile investment for conference organizers.

Pros

BuzzCast

  • The BuzzCast platform was excellent in every way.
  • The platform is sleek and easy to use, both the backend and the UX.
  • The entire team at BuzzCast is supportive and works hard to make your event a complete success.
  • Building and deploying the conference was made easy by the expertise and hard-working BuzzCast staff.

Whova

  • The app keeps everyone up-to-date with real-time notifications of how participants are viewing presentations, promotions and notices
  • It enables exhibitors to view participants, including competitors, before going live in order to ensure equal opportunity and better understanding of how best to operate
  • The meeting forums, such as integrated Zoom, were robust enough technology for those with cutting-edge gear as well as those less tech-savvy who might have older components as they worked for all types of hardware.
  • The app seemed to capture the "Community" feeling one gets when attending a live show with personal messages, public and private message groups, introductory procedures and an all-inclusive design suitable for any user

Cons

BuzzCast

  • Within the platform it would be great to have direct access to make edits changes (I believe this functionality is in process)

Whova

  • The full address of some of the sessions didn't show up in the app- just the start of the address and/or I couldn't easily figure out how to view the address.
  • I didn't notice this feature if it exists already- integrate session addresses with Google Maps to make it easier for attendees to find different locations for sessions when it's not all happening in the same building.
  • Make it easier to interact on a desktop. I couldn't figure out how to access the event on my desktop, which I would have preferred prior to and after the event.

It was an enjoyable experience. I do not know if a small organization like ours would be able to use this all the time but national events it is awesome

Whova is quite user friendly, and helpful for the conference planner. It has features such as sample emails to attendees and import abilities if you have your sessions on a spreadsheet to avoid having to enter each session manually. Another thing we didn't like was the inability to allow attendees to enter a pre-recorded session only when it is scheduled to be presented. It's either all pre-recorded can be viewed once the conference opens, or none.

Hours are limited. It seems if my event was on the weekend, I would not able to get support. Seems like a glaring issue not to be able to get support in an industry that has a large percentage of its usage on weekends. In my limited exposure to the support staff, they didn't seem to care about my issues (reporting bugs, lack of functionality, lack of customization). I may have missed the opportunity to upgrade to enhanced support, but I currently do not think it exists.

Alternatives Considered

BuzzCast

BuzzCast platform has the most amount of features that our events require (public chat/private chat, breakouts, auto-scrolling agenda). The entire platform is built and designed so that it's intuitive for our viewers and they are shown exactly how to operate the platform in under a minute. The quality of the stream is superior. The BuzzCast team is great to work with and are true partners who are all solution-oriented.

Whova

We believed that Whova had better functionality and add-ons from our early conversations at an acceptable price point. This is not the case. One consideration - polling and voting - is very limiting, you can type in multiple-choice polls 'live' ie mid-session, or put them in on a timed basis but this kills the fluidity or efficiency of doing so, taking staff away to manually type and send polls. It's rife with this type of thing.

Return on Investment

BuzzCast

  • BuzzCast enabled one of my clients to deliver an investors' meeting that resulted in a $10 billion increase in market cap

Whova

  • I didn't pay to use the technology; was a recipient as a result of attending a conference. HIGH ROI for me as a made a number of new contacts even though I spent the first full day listening to presentations. Having the app allowed me to do the networking I came to do without having to be seated next to the person I wanted to meet.
