Causeview
I think Causeview is well suited for those who are looking to track revenue and donor information in the same place. It is good to have your database with all of your contacts integrated with the same system that you use to process things such as donations and event registrations, so it saves time and we don't have to maintain separate systems for our development work and our other revenue-generating strategies. We also use reports to pull up information about donors and use that information for fundraising -- for example, donor history and things like that.

Salesforce
I’d say it’s very well suited for organizations looking to move toward AI integrations and make more data-driven decisions. As I mentioned, I’ve also used the competing product from Blackbaud, which is a very closed system — you can’t really pull out the data. Salesforce, on the other hand, has a big advantage with its APIs, allowing you to extract data, store it in Data Cloud, and do much more with it.
However, if your requirements aren’t clearly defined or if there’s heavy customization involved, the implementation can get messy. So I wouldn’t recommend using Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud in cases where the requirements and structure aren’t clearly laid out.

Cons
Causeview
  • Event registration and donation pages could be better designed - not up to par with sites such as Eventbrite
  • I would like to have the option for people to register with more than one e-mail address instead of creating a duplicate record each time someone uses a different e-mail.
  • Some of my coworkers find Causeview confusing to use or difficult to find information.

  • Organizations that are new to Salesforce need to be prepared for report building and other configurations. Customization is a great feature, but it can be overwhelming if not impossible for a brand new user.
  • Salesforce Trailhead is robust but can be confusing and overwhelming.
  • I'm currently comfortable with only using Salesforce CMS or any iteration on a desktop.

Salesforce CMS is very intuitive and easy to use. I have not found where it glitches or crashes out. You can tell where data is "supposed to live" and it you aren't sure, there is an easy search function. Support is made readily available.

Support Rating
Causeview
Causeview's support is a lone bright spot. They are often quick to respond. They are generally helpful, although brief in their answers and explanations. I would appreciate more detailed answers to technical problems, but I do appreciate their support's problem solving ability

I have never had bad conversations with any support people with Salesforce but we also have not used them very much. I put it a little less because we are struggling to switch to lightning (some of our custom features do not migrate well) and it feels like the help and support for a little organization is not incredibly helpful unless we want to spend a lot of money.

Alternatives Considered
Causeview
I did not personally select Causeview for my organization, but I have found it easy to use in comparison with other similar systems. The fact that Causeview can be added to Salesforce, and hop on our existing database, is very important to us and is one of the main reasons we continue to use the service.

Salesforce
As a cloud native organization with no previous Microsoft infrastructure, Salesforce was a more logical and effective option for us. The suite of products was also far more comprehensive and required less customization. We were able to adopt a "configure not code" approach to our development of systems to support our mission that lowered the cost of upgrades.

Return on Investment
Causeview
  • Negative: expensive per-license fee with no discount for added users.
  • Negative: unreliable servers that host donate pages.

Salesforce
  • New email platform (integrated with Salesforce and based on Salesforce segmentation) increased open rate by 7%
  • Using Salesforce Flows to design a custom batch process for approving small grants reduced days of work to one or two clicks.
  • We replaced a paper system (walking around with a clipboard) to a virtual system (you can do it from anywhere!) for approving payments.
