Chose Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Rugged Series Switches
Because we need the better hardware and newer software features - also we need DC Power an DIN Mount features- the longer lifecycle was critical - also we are looking into more advanced extension cards and the cyber vision container to run on the switches itself - is not very …
Cisco Catalyst IE3300 Rugged Series Switches are what I would say a primary option if you are already a Cisco house that has software such as DNA Centre (they are compatible with it) or the future Catalyst Centre. This is great as it can be integrated into your existing infrastructure without compromising manageability or having to retrain staff to work on new equipment. Managing the switches is effectively the exact same. In my opinion, it is also more suited to small industrial needs in certain climate zones that are not extremes, as there are bespoke vendors that may be better hardware-wise than Cisco, but of course software wise Cisco does take some beating.
Amazing network management and extremely perfect network security production and its notification options are very responsive. Creating real time analytics and the visualization capability is fantastic. This Cisco Catalyst platform has effective insights gathering tools and its data quality control functions are good and quick on process reports preparation and workflow easy management product.
The portdensity is poor (when compared to competition) which means that the IE-switches takes more space then competition.
The price is not competitive, only possible to ship/sell to customers that are set on the Brand. To say that Cisco has more features (to motivate that these units cost more then the double) is not correct, the competition solves the same stuff differently.
Overall, a few vendors like Siemens, Moxa, Versitron. We were only after a simple solution, so Moxa could have seemed a good option but overall being a Cisco house is a no brainer for the organisation and teams. Comparisons weren't really in the decision. But these Cisco Catalyst IE3300 Rugged Series Switches are working great.
For certain cabinets where space is limited or industrial cabinets with harsh environments (dust, moisture, temperature), Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Rugged Series Switches are a good fit.
We did like the ability to be able to expand the ports, but there were some downsides to that because the racking in the space can be an issue if you don't have that ahead of time.
Before implementing these switches, production lines were constantly stopped due to network failures. This had a huge financial impact on the company.
In addition to mitigating those flaws, you now have complete network monitoring with the joint implementation of the Cisco Industrial Network Director.
