Likelihood to Recommend

Cisco Meraki SD-WAN

I would recommend Cisco Meraki SD-WAN to my colleagues in the scenario of a big corporate with 2 or 3 IPS and small branches over the world where they can’t have specialist in case of a failure. The platform can be managed from a single point through the dashboard and make a simple or profound testing and troubleshooting without losing any connectivity. It is the best solution that will save you money and time

Cisco SD-WAN

SD-WAN is applicable to all business verticals, since it helps to make the administration of large infrastructures more efficient, improving the response times related to an incident, facilitating the resolution of problems, and guaranteeing business continuity when there are interruptions in your upstream communications. But best of all, the user experience improves by 100%, by always having the ability to access business applications in a reliable and secure manner

Pros

Cisco Meraki SD-WAN

  • The natting function works really well. Even if you are behind a router with NAT, it still translates the traffic.
  • Security is a big benefit as you can define that only certain elements go across the VPN (SD-WAN).

Cisco SD-WAN

  • Before Cisco SD-WAN, our users even struggled to send emails with Microsoft 365
  • Cloud applications, such as SharePoint, were not taking a long time to load and made it impossible to collaborate
  • Streaming services--even though video streaming does not work at desired levels, music streaming started to work without interruption

Cons

Cisco Meraki SD-WAN

  • Customized, esoteric configurations were very hard to get connected and configured.
  • We had hoped to configure all sites filtering in one place, but each site has to be configured separately. this is prohibitive with a large number of sites.
  • Network visibility does not work as well as I would like.
  • The MX appliances do not work well with voice VLAN when using the appliances as a small office router/switch.

Cisco SD-WAN

  • Ease of initial configuration - I'm not actually sure how to make it easier without losing granularity and control, but it can be very difficult and confusing when first setting up. Afterwards, it's just point and click.
  • Model upload - It would be nice if a given hardware model could be "uploaded" to provide a basic configuration to start with.
  • Logs - I'd prefer more options for filtering logs and having certain ones not be alarms of any kind.

Support Rating

Cisco Meraki SD-WAN

Cisco Meraki SD-WAN 8.1
Based on 2 answers
Fast and efficient. The only issue currently is that the support is only overseas support and not in South Africa, which causes delays in resolution for some cases. Escalating issues is quite simple and the opening of new cases from the dashboard is easy. I have never had a support issue that could not be resolved.

Cisco SD-WAN 8.2

The support that we have received during the deployment phase and the guidance that was imparted with were top-notch. We could have configured this without a doubt, but the expert opinion and advice that was provided to us helped accelerate the design and implementation process that we took. I won't go into specifics, as there are too many and they are on the case to case basis, but I am confident that you will be informed on what "fits" your needs best.

Cisco SD-WAN

We only compared Silver Peak NX and Cisco SD-WAN. Since we are primarily a Cisco infrastructure shop, it seemed to integrate better than Silver Peak. We liked the confirmed long-term support from Cisco we have grown accustomed to and did not want to take a chance on a new player. Nothing bad to say about Silver Peak, we just chose another route.

Scalability

Cisco Meraki SD-WAN

Cisco Meraki SD-WAN 8.2

The flag of Meraki is its scalability. This is an important feature that wins against the competitors. There is no better way to integrate new equipments, add new services and extend equipment’s licensing but the Meraki Dashboard. You can easily manage your inventory and move configuration without compromising the overall performance.

Return on Investment

Cisco Meraki SD-WAN

  • So far, SD-WAN/ Internet has saved us thousands per month over MPLS over private circuits.
  • Simple sites are quick and easy to bring online.

Cisco SD-WAN

  • In my previous company, we had several production facilities across the US using Cisco's SD-WAN and it allowed the company to continue to provide for employees and our end customers when problems arose with circuits.
  • As I mentioned previously, vManage allowed the company to track when there are circuit outages in a really simple portal. Before Cisco's SD-WAN, we had to spend money on 3rd party monitoring.
  • Whenever there was an issue with the server, an employee could request assistance from anywhere instead of worrying about whether or not there was an IT employee present.
