It is an excellent choice for a personal device if you want to bring an independent device to meetings and add it as a second display at the same time. I don't believe that there is nearly as much benefit in using anything in a shared environment or in shared mode. My opinion is that the Room Kits that include displays that can flip or be touched by Samsung are more suited for that.

I find Polycom RealPresence to be useful when having one on one conversations in purpose built rooms for video conferencing. That is where the quality of the product shines. However, I dislike using Polycom Real Presence for any sort of content sharing because of the issues around resolution. If I need to share content of any kind, I prefer to use other teleconferencing solutions.

Cons

Cisco

  • Touch controller calibration could be a challenge
  • You can’t use the camera like a normal web cam
  • When you use the adapter is HDMI to DVI and if you are gone for a few minutes the display goes dark. Refresh the display does not come back on easily.

      Usability

      Cisco

In the workplace, Cisco Webex DX80 is ideal for group meetings. It's as simple as entering the room, dialing the destination number, and joining the video. It's simple and convenient. It offers an easy-to-use menu and user interface. My own opinion is that Cisco's usability is fantastic and I like it greatly. I encountered no issues.

We've never had a problem getting help from Cisco. As the workhorses of Cisco's meetings, these devices are well-known and widely utilized throughout the organization. Even their sales representatives are familiar with how to maintain them. And if one does break (which has yet to happen), I am confident that we will receive the same high level of service and prompt replacement as we have in the past.

Both Webex Meetings and Cisco Webex DX80 are a tool for virtual meetings with videoconferencing. However, we like the Cisco Webex DX80 better to keep it fixed in small and medium meeting rooms. It is a piece of equipment that is used by me and everyone in the IT department for online meetings. I recommend the Cisco Webex DX80 and Webex Meetings for individual use for group meetings.

Polycom RealPresence is really only the preferred teleconferencing solution when using a purpose built room for a scheduled face to face meeting. For ad hoc video meetings, Hangouts, Skype, and Slack all provide fewer friction points for average use cases. In fact, as Google accounts are nearly ubiquitous at this point, Hangouts has almost become the de facto standard for ad hoc video conferencing amongst our users.

      Return on Investment

      Cisco

      • It helped us get our Sr. Leadership team familiar with and excited about Webex. Then, them spreading the word helped align the company with the new Webex software coming and saved us a bunch on training. When users were more excited about a product, they soak it in better.
      • This device has been a mainstay in our COVID working from home plans. This allows the business to keep running AND meet face to face when it's not safe yet to do so.

      • Personally we have not gotten our money's worth, but this is not Polycom's fault, it is because users found it difficult to use.
      • As for me personally, I used it for video conferencing, but my job was to make sure that it was operational for video conferencing.
      • As stated earlier, even though I found it very easy to use, my users did not, and as such tended to video conference with other apps.
