datapine

For someone like me, who had no real experience in using BI tools before, datapine suits quite well. Most of the features I was able to explore on my own, and their support was always really helpful (as well as the tutorials). In general, I was most impressed from their dashboard features. If you look for a software with detailed statistical analysis options, you maybe need to take another (additional) tool. My main use-case was the visualization and reporting of the analysis results, not the statistical analysis itself. This usually was done before with SPSS.

Based on my personal use-case and the access that I have, I would recommend ThoughtSpot. One of the advantages, besides the obvious is, I like how you can share your pinboard with other members of the company. This way you're not having to re-create the wheel every time a different user wants the same report, and then that user can even customize the report to exactly what they're looking for.

  • Dashboard templates helped to create visually appealing dashboards.
  • Many different reporting options.
  • Customer support is really helpful.

ThoughtSpot

  • Ability to drill down into questions on the fly.

  • Ability to join multiple databases so data can be analyzed across the organization.
  • SpotIQ: showing us insights to our data that we didn't even think to ask about.

Cons

datapine

  • Some advanced functions need SQL knowledge.
Anonymous | TrustRadius Reviewer

ThoughtSpot

  • Print to PDF is not fully supported - having big impact on sharing pinboards with execs
  • Customer support is slow to react and often leads to an endless circle of tickets that sometimes never get resolved. This involves finger pointing from one team onto another. Very frustrating
  • the search bar is really nothing like google search. the curser moves in odd places and the results of a basic search are far more difficult to get than a google search. Long way to go here.

We have had success with the initial use cases and there are more use cases that can receive return on investment. I don't give it a 10 because other products like Tableau are building functionality that may start to compete in the coming years.

The tool is easy to use if you know what you are doing and looking for. I know as they work towards improvements and simple language it will become even easier, but as of now they are doing a great job but there is room for improvement.

We also explored Tableau Ask Data. Tableau is our standard for BI in our organization. We want to use the smallest amount of tools in our company to have the best adaption. ThoughSpot will fill a few gaps that we have with our current set up and will also enhance out offering for our employees in the transition of being more data driven within in near future

  • Time to market ROI is massive vs hiring the full-time dedicated team to build and maintain a frontend multi-tenant SaaS data viz product.
  • It will be interesting to see over time how the advanced features play out in terms of usability and end value such as Natural Search which we are very excited about and the machine learning tools.
