Overall Satisfaction with ThoughtSpot

ThoughtSpot is used as an addon to the current BI Landscape. The use case are:
- Next Level of Self Service BI
- High volume Data to be analyzed by the end user
- Reduce the number of used Dashboards by combining data sources and use case into just a few.

Pros

  • Live Search on Cloud data bases (Snowflake, Redshift, Big Query, Terradata and SAP Hana)
  • Speed of search on data set bigger the 20 GB
  • Intuitive way to create sharable information
  • Using SpotIQ for unexpected insights (Specially the speed)

Cons

  • ETL Functionality (Dataflow is getting there)
  • More data source connectors
  • Debugging data loading scripts before using them (Simulation)
  • More chart types
  • Speed of development
  • Time saving
  • Fast adoption
Very intuitive. A few short videos or guidelines will be enough to help the end user to get results. The product helps the users to be curious again to explore the data by themselves.
We also explored Tableau Ask Data. Tableau is our standard for BI in our organization. We want to use the smallest amount of tools in our company to have the best adaption. ThoughSpot will fill a few gaps that we have with our current set up and will also enhance out offering for our employees in the transition of being more data driven within in near future
Well suited for:
- Using big data set < 25/50 GB for analysis and search
- Fast connect and search capabilities on online data bases
- Next level of self service
- Quickly sharing information
- getting automated insights and ideas with SpotIQ
Less appropriate:
- Standard reporting
- ETL features, if data has to be transformed (need to use other ETL products)
