FreePBX vs. Polycom Trio

FreepBX is a great product if you are able and willing to manage your own PBX system. It requires some know-how to set up but once running, it works very well. There is a large community that helps answer questions, but it isn't "plug and play" so you will need to be able to research and troubleshoot your own issues (or pay for support).

We have Polycom Trio for all our conference rooms which do not need video. They work perfectly well, providing excellent quality, sound and features. The sound quality is good for small to medium rooms. We have added additional mic pods for large conference rooms, helps to get voice from users speaking from corners of room. Registers/Integrates fairly easily with Unified Communications platform.

• Audio conferencing is wonderful. This product really excels at audio. Connecting up to Skype for Business Online, we have been able to place regular phone calls as well as Skype based calls. Quality of audio is excellent. This really depends on the amount of bandwidth you have. I really recommend if you have over 5Mbps of available bandwidth.

• Phone integration/firmware can be clunky and has a learning curve.
• Relies on crowd sourcing information as expected for open-source.

• Our greatest disappointment in Polycom Trio was the lag in using the screen, it wasn't nearly as intuitive and "snappy" as the iPads were.
• Paired next to the iPad's, the Polycom Trio was much more expensive and couldn't be a justified member of our mass Zoom Room adoption.

It works well, there isn't much more to say. You can get a free ($0) phone system packed with features, then if you need even more features then the cost is extremely cheap, and it works well. On top of this, you have complete freedom in the PBX to do as you wish, and debug and see everything

A well known product that most users are familiar with and simple enough for new users to learn and understand.

3CX may be slightly easier for a novice to use, but FreePBX completely beats it when you remove that factor. You can do anything you want, and debug and see everything. Now with AI its even easier to debug and learn how the PBX works if you hit an issue

Polycom Trio provides better conference call quality, picks up voice from corners of the room with additional mics for large room, better widescreen display, and it was mostly the user satisfaction which made us choose Polycom Trio.

• Drastically reduced our direct telephony cost as we don't need to have the hardware and support.
• Very functional and added new functionality that we did not have previously.

• Increase in Conference Call productivity. Using the Skype For Business integration, we can share content on screen and hold video conferences where anyone can join with a skype for business account.
• Users have adopted the system easily.
• Reduced travel expenses for meetings.
