Likelihood to Recommend

Marvel

Marvel is a very strong tool in scenarios where designers seek to quickly create simple prototypes on their desktops using a simple, intuitive interface. It offers “just enough” functionality to create somewhat realistic designs to present to stakeholders and other designers. However, there’s a limit to how “realistic” those designs can be, given that Marvel has somewhat limited functionality around animations. Marvel is not a strong option for those who want to create very complex prototypes with many animations, or for those who want to edit prototypes on their tablet or phone. Marvel is a jewel for simplicity but starts to be difficult to use when creating complicated designs. For creating more complicated prototypes, I would recommend a more robust tool, such as Axure.

Agile style meetings are great with all of the existing templates. I have led brainstorming and strategic planning meetings using the tool and my team really enjoyed the interactivity. The emoticons were really fun for voting. I am preparing a virtual workshop that requires lots of interaction. This tool will be very important in making sure the workshop stays successful.

Pros

Marvel

  • Easy to use with a fast learning curve
  • The handoff option allows developers to extract CSS code to copy design styles
Ronald Melendez | TrustRadius Reviewer

Miro

  • Highly intuitive
  • Adapts to any creative style. ie, some people prefer words, some like visuals.
  • The number of templates is astounding. They're really great to kick off and structure ideas.

Cons

Marvel

  • Not really many fancy animations which makes it quite limited but its great for simple stuff.
  • You do have to pay if your making multiple designs and you want to take the marvel branding off your designs.
  • To actually use it for businesses it can be quite expensive so you want to be able to password protect the designs to share externally and also to get support.
  • You can have some trouble resizing prototypes sometimes because of the basic interface.

Miro

  • Can't show a video to participants, video can only be viewed by individuals.
  • There is a learning curve for users since it is different than other web conference tools.
  • Would like additional chat or polling functionality.

As mentioned, it's so intuitive that I started using it immediately without having to read a manual, watch a tutorial or go on a forum. It felt like it melded with my mind very quickly. Any time I asked myself a "what if I...?" or "can I do...?", the answer was pretty much always yes! For example, I love that it will align a bunch of shapes so they're equidistant or centred. I love symmetry and I've realised it's very important to me when creating things. The aesthetic is just as important as the content, especially when I'm sharing it with my bosses. They like to see a more sophisticated presentation of ideas and Miro lets me do that. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because there are some minor things that could (and I'm sure will) be improved

I have not yet had to engage support live. I have found every answer I needed by tapping the extensive knowledge base. I think they are taking the right approach in allowing me to self serve when I need some info. I will update my review if and when I need to tap a live representative.

Alternatives Considered

Marvel

Ultimately, InVision was just a better fit for our company's needs. It's probably faster to create prototypes using Marvel, but InVision's collaboration features (comments, notes, etc.) are much more robust, which was helpful for our large team spread across multiple continents. InVision also offers more advanced features, and Marvel felt a little too limited for our overall business needs.

Miro

Miro feels more intuitive than InVision. I think of the two as Apple (Miro) and Android (InVision). Both are very good products and you can ultimately do what you need to with them, but Miro has that X-Factor where everything "just works". I was invited to a board, having never even heard of Miro. I was using it pretty adeptly within a few minutes because everything I wanted to do, I could. And everything I expected to find on the board in a certain location was right there. And the best thing is it's not "over-designed". It doesn't have 5 million features that make it bloated and slow. They've found the balance of function and form. That's the sign of a well made product

Return on Investment

Marvel

  • It helped me improve my productivity. It took me lot of time to manually design mockups earlier when I used Adobe Photoshop to do it.
  • Because of quickly creating mockups, now I provide my clients with more than 4-5 options which is welcomed by clients and make them happy.
  • Definitely the ROI and improved, because of time saved and happy clients.

Miro

  • ROI is strong in Covid-19 situations where strong interaction is needed virtually
  • A good bridge between in-person and virtual since the tool can be used in person just as easily.
  • Can continue important employee learning programs as Virtual Instructor Led.
