Chose Microsoft Entra ID
I think the closest one would be because we recently went through an implementation, but Salesforce has their own version of a signal sign-on product. It's not the same. I'd say that it works, but it doesn't give you as much functionality.

Microsoft Entra ID is great for SSO and PIM. It works across a ton of different scenarios like RDP into VMs in Azure and generally provisioning laptops to users (easy enough to spin up a new workstation and have Entra be how we handle accounts and whatnot). It's also good for ensuring we don't have global admin access forever, since we do need to use it somewhat often. But it needs more customizable automation capabilities and an easier way to get reports/data from the platform. Also some pages are just buggy and hard to read/use.

Salesforce Identity is well suited and I'm on the street visiting and I have to access a customer's account and I need to access multiple systems at the same time to get a lot of information. When I have to compare information on 2 or more different systems and I need it all connected at the same time.

  • The identity and management are straightforward to use and easy to connect to other applications, as well as third-party applications.
  • The support of remote work. Nowadays, many people work from home and need to access their accounts. Microsoft Enterprise ID gives secure access to the company data.

  • It has the ability to use many different authentication standards to fit all the different needs of the applications.
  • If the standard isn't supported it has the flexibility to create your own custom solution.

  • When in non Microsoft environments, the integration is not smooth at all with some.

MSFT Entra ID has been essential for managing our geographically dispersed team. We're confident that it will scale with us as grow, and we'll be able to take advantage of additional security and ID management features as they become necessary. Being able to centrally manage our user access from anywhere with a small support team is such a relief.

Simply because of what I mentioned earlier, the feature set sort of keeps changing and they do a lot of, they integrated with a lot of the other tools and so for users who are not as well seasoned, it may be a little bit more complicated for them to begin working within the tool.

Make sure you use a good partner. Our implementation was a bit longer and more problematic than we expected. Our partner got it done, but, in my opinion, some of their inexperience and staffing issues were evident.

Microsoft Entra ID is not as stand-alone product as competitors like Okta. It may lack some of the features that competing products have but on the other hand it integrates both technically and license wise with other Microsoft cloud services and is easy to deploy. It is also the easiest way to extend identity management to the cloud if you already have Microsoft Active Directory in use.

One system completes the other. I use Salesforce Identity to enter Salesforce CMS. All my company's client portfolios are in SF CMS. I use the Salesforce Identity and the Salesforce CMS every day, all the time.
