We did not really evaluate various cloud offerings and opted for on-premise database platform. Compared to Oracle and SQL Server, Teradata fared well with respect to performance
Oracle Exadata is well-suited for environments where massive performance for Oracle databases is required. Storage indexes reduce the unnecessary I/O. Smart Flash Cache accelerates random reads/writes.
Our OLTP application demands very high concurrency. Multi-node Exadata provides high availability and zero downtime during DB patching. It comes with lots of built-in automations, so it reduces many routine tasks for sysadmins, like network, storage, and VM configuration, and it also reduces many Oracle DBA tasks, like Oracle software installation, patching, and upgrades.
Teradata Vantage is well suited for large scale ETL pipelines like the ones we developed for anti money laundering risk matrices. It handles heavy joins, aggregations, and transformations on transactional data efficiently. We generate alert variables, adjust for inflation, and monitor establishments monthly with it, all integrated with Python and Control-M for a centralised automation across the company. For less appropriate, I would say that heavy resource demands might slow down experimentation for iterative work.
Treasure Data is well suited to integrating multiple data sources, including online and digital sources. It is also well suited to trigger audience activations to known customers based on their online activity, integrating 3rd party data, and activating target audiences to ad platforms.

Teradata is an excellent option but only for a massive amount of data warehousing or analysis. If your data is not that big then it could be a misfit for your company and cost you a lot. The cost associated is quite extensive as compared to some other alternative RDBMS systems available in the market.
Migration of data from Teradata to some other RDBMS systems is quite painful as the transition is not that smooth and you need to follow many steps and even if one of them fails. You need to start from the beginning almost.
Last but not least the UI is pretty outdated and needs a revamp. Though it is simple, it needs to be presented in a much better way and more advanced options need to bee presented on the front page itself.
Teradata is a mature RDBMS system that expands its functionality towards the current cloud capabilities like object storage and flexible compute scale.
I do think that we definitely will be renewing. We are putting major resources, time, and effort into Treasure Data becoming an extension of our organization, in many ways. We are working toward complete synergies with this product and leadership is very excited about the direction we are heading to be completely customer-centric.
I am comparing Exadata with the Oracle RAC database experience. In addition to Oracle RAC features, Exadata provides automatic performance optimization through Smart Scan and storage indexes. Deep integration with the Oracle ecosystem and tight coupling with Oracle Enterprise Manager for monitoring and management. Some downsides of Exadata are: a steep learning curve, concepts like cell offloading, IORM, and flash cache behavior aren’t intuitive initially. Operating Exadata requires specialized DBA skills.
Teradata Vantage allows us to create a scalable infrastructure to support our strategic initiatives. The dedicated compute power ensures reliable performance with isolated workloads and dedicated resources, optimizing workflows for faster, more efficient data transfers. The compute clusters support ETL processes and OSF’s developers and data science team with the flexibility to create self-service analytics, to spin up/down at any time, driving better performance and minimizing costs.
It's a easy platform to use and give the user detailed logs about what is going on in the workflows, so someone that do not have a lot of experience can start to work with it. And also the master segment usability is awesome, as we can filter a lot of data the way we want.
As treasure data has a 24 hours support, every time we has big issues that impacts the zones, we do have immediatly support from the treasure data team, so I would say that we do not have any issues with availability
Since treasure data has started having a huge amount of data, sometimes we do have problems with the workflows logs because we generate a lot of then. But with integrations I have not to complain, its really easy to integrate with other platforms.
We have meetings at the beginning with the technical team to explain our requirements to them and they were really putting in a lot of effort to come up with a solution which will address all our needs. They implemented the software and also trained a few of our resources on the same too. We can get in touch with them now as well whenever we run into a roadblock but it's very less now.
The technical team has a good hold on the nuances of the data related to our organization. I have found the online technical support on their site quite responsive including the L1 support. In cases where the L1 team isn't able to resolve, I have found they are prompt in getting the product team's input to get a quick resolution.
I wasnt here at the training in the start, but I had a few training with treasure data for a few functionalities, and they provided me god explanations and great documentations, eve if the project were in beta.
Oracle Exadata Database Machine had the best performance overall hands down. It clearly beat the competition and we were seeing 1000X improvement on SAP HANA. Oracle Exadata Database Machine beat that without us refactoring our code. To achieve that in HANA, we had to refactor the code somewhat. Now this was for our limited POC of 5 use cases. Given the large number of stored procedures we had in Sybase, we need to capture more production metrics but we are seeing incredible performance.
Teradata is way ahead of its competitor because of its unique features of ensuring data privacy and data never gets corrupted even in worst case scenario. In most cases, the data corruption is a major issue if left unused and it leads to important data being wiped off which in ideal case should be stored for 3 years
We chose Treasure Data for the supreme customer service and lack of hidden costs. We don't need to manage any infrastructure or scale anything to meet customer demand. Treasure Data handles everything and makes it easy for us to integrate and focus on the tasks at hand. There may be cheaper options but we do not regret our decision to go with Treasure Data one bit.
Single support from a single vendor with both machine and database from Oracle, which is costing us less.
With Exadata, we need less technical manpower and less technical support. A business transaction with the integrated and centralized database helps us focus on other business needs.
We don't need to buy additional licenses and Hardware for the next 3 to 5 years.
Moving to Teradata in the Cloud-enabled a level of agility that previously didn't exist in the organization. It also enabled a level of analytic competency that was not achievable using other options on the aggressive timeline that was required. We didn't want to settle for reinventing a wheel when we had a super tuned performance capable beast readily available in Teradata. Teradata lets us focus on our business rather than spending money and effort trying to design software or database foundations features on an open source or lower performance platform.
We have built and supported our source of truth data tables using Treasure. This forms the foundation of our decision making.
Most of our Tableau data sources are created using a Treasure Data export which is executed by workflows on a daily basis which allows us to have visibility into day to day performance and communicate them to a wide variety of roles.
We load custom data into our Salesforce instance which allows us to trigger certain workflows and build accountability - i.e. a "Sale" will only count once a certain product driven event occurs which comes from data we pipe into Treasure and then into Salesforce.
