PaloAlto VM-200 is a virtualized firewall with high processing power and network edge protection. The great advantage is being able to implement in a VMware environment without worrying about hardware, rack space, physical network connections and others. It can be easily managed via the web and remotely to create protection, access and reporting rules. The VM-200 firewall can be used by any company, small or large because it has several models available according to the real needs of each one.

WatchGuard Network Security

WatchGuard has products that are suitable for any SMB, from a one-man shop to 300+ large multi-site corporations. With multiple configuration methods available, WSM, web, CLI, and now Cloud Management, there's a config style for all. Further, the config method you choose is the same, be it a small T20 or a high-end M5800, so the skills you learn apply directly to clients big or small.

WatchGuard Network Security

  • It would be nice to have a fully functional web interface [for the] server manager. The server manager is often very slow over remote connections.
  • Better support for OpenVPN server, or at least an easier way of creating tunnels using OpenVPN.
  • user VPN user management is a little confusing until you understand that all users need to be created under SSL users, regardless of VPN type.
  • Would be nice to have traffic statistics on traffic management objects.

Ever since 2007, WatchGuard Fireboxes and WatchGuard network layer security solutions have been the most security effective with the lowest TCO of any solution on the market when properly implemented and properly maintained. As with any network layer security solution, the underlying network must first be architected correctly in order to facilitate network layer security, but then an extremely highly skilled network security architect must device, implement, and maintain a network layer security solution in order to achieve efficacy. This is true of any network layer security solution. Few people worldwide have that skill. However, WatchGuard technologies when implemented and supported by a qualified partner are able to deliver that solution very cost-effectively to the SMB space. No other solution can achieve that.

I give this rating as a result of almost 20 years of interfacing with WatchGuard technical support. Of all my vendors that I have to deal with WatchGuard is one of the best I have ever dealt with bar none. I have seldom finished a call to them without a solution. If they by chance don't have the solution, they will figure it out and get back to you ASAP as well as update the casefile online. Technical support is available via phone and web portal. It takes a few minutes to create a case online, assign a priority and submit. They get back to you depending on the critical nature of the issue, but you can expect urgent attention for critical and catastrophic issues.

The training videos are so helpful. They cover all of the aspects of the devices. The cloud is very nice in providing easy-to-access information regarding the health of the devices. I use the cloud for quick access and the PC application for more hands-on access and updates.

The Palo Alto seemed like a more mature product, with better online documentation and support. Based on previous support cases with both companies, we felt that we could get support from Palo Alto much quicker than with Fortinet when we badly needed it. Palo Alto was also easier for our existing engineers to get to grips with, since they had prior experience

We appreciate the WatchGuard Network Security approach to multilevel security with a layered stack. We believe that using multiple vendors' products does not lock WatchGuard into a single mindset when providing security. Over the years WatchGuard has changed some of its constituent vendors to provide better protection at the time. WatchGuard supplies a full stack security offering that is speedy in operation at any pricepoint compared to its competitors.

  • Once deployed the firewall just works
  • We had one that failed, and because it was covered, we got a replacement the following day.
  • The firmware update process takes less time, and it doesn't impact the business at all. We always update our out-of-hours, and we have never had issues.
