SAP Ruum vs. XWiki

Ruum [by SAP] is well-suited for the task creation and assignment with the responsible persons for the follow-ups and collaboration, which can be used for both internal or external projects. Ruum [by SAP] can also be used for internal tasks, milestones, project and workflow management and team management functionalities respectively. Ruum [by SAP] may not be well suited for those who want to use the CRM tools for the related marketing activities management in [a] particular situation.

XWiki is very well suited for a very wide range of web collaboration and web development.

• Ruum by SAP supports brainstorming, and in the end, there is content management.
• Further, Ruum by SAP helps in task and backlog management.
• The processes are also well mapped.
• Goal setting and feedback tracking are also included in the feature.

• XWiki makes it easy to manage semi-structured information, which is at the heart of every knowledge nexus of organizations. It makes it easy to manage in a single system both structured data (such as memberships, projects), and unstructured data.
• XWiki offers a very rich API for creating enterprise applications quickly that are easy to maintain and evolve collaboratively.
• XWiki templating and skinning system is extremely flexible and powerful.

• While the basic pieces are available for turning XWiki into an advanced semantic system, some features could be made available more prominently to the user for easing the use of faceted and typed links, paving the way for a new era of collaborative knowledge sharing.

The starting price for Ruum by SAP is very affordable, and there is a free trial, available. Further, Ruum by SAP has all forms of training, which gives full knowledge to people who want to work with the software. Again, backlog management, where feedback is issued on the progress of every task is a major boost from the application.

XWiki key differentiators in my opinion:

• Fast app development framework with very rich API
• Open-source strategy, opening the way to collaborative innovation

• No code knowledge required for Ruum application
• Effective collaboration with external parties
• Better project planning and milestones management

• XWiki has a positive impact on the OW2 communication and collaborations strategies. It saves time when developing applications.
