What is Google Meet?

Google Meet, formerly Hangouts Meet, replaces the former Google Hangouts as the company's G Suite integrated web conferencing tool, allowing users to join meetings directly from a Calendar event or email invite from a computer, phone, or conference room. G Suite's Enterprise edition also creates a dial-in phone number for each meeting, as an additional convenience.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I mostly use it to take my online classes, and the problem that I am facing is that whenever I try to switch tabs to share some PPTs, it creates a small pop-up window that I have to drag and remove from the front screen. It's very annoying, and every time I close it temporarily, it comes back when I switch tabs.

Pros

  • It allows multiple people to join in a meeting.
  • The admin can change the role and make anyone as admin of the current session.
  • Even if the meeting gets disconnected due to network in the admin's side error still it remains running on the user's side.
  • Multiple people can share screen together at the same time.
  • The admin can make the meeting open to all so that every time someone joins the admin does not have to allow them one by one. Once it's open, all can join without permission of the admin.

Cons

  • First is the pop up windows when we switch tabs from the Google Meet window to other window. At that time, a new window appears, which I have to drag and put in the corner so that it does not occupy the screen while I am presenting a PPT.
  • Second thing is that if someone wants to join then they had to have a Google account or cannot login. If a new user who is not very good with tech wants to join, then that new user will face trouble because he/she has to go through the registration process.
  • Like Wayground quizzies, Google Meet should allow any user to join without registration, which is not possible in Google Meet. Also, while sharing the screen, due to network issues, the screen share sometimes becomes blurry.
  • At the time of network issues the audio comes with little delay.

Return on Investment

  • It gave good impact but Google Meet is not improving itself with the technology.
  • I especially came here to give my opinion on how I feel sometimes irritated while using it due to its blurry screen sharing feature.
  • In the beginning of my business, Google Meet was giving its best performance, but nowadays it's not giving its full potential as before.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our organization uses it for corporate meetings within and outside the organization with different stakeholders. We also use it for our students who take online exams using Trelson Assessment and Safe Exam Browser, as we need to keep an eye on them while they are writing. However, the business problems include challenges with advanced features that require a premium subscription to access, such as recording. The scope of our use case is basically creating and scheduling meetings, supporting audio and video meetings, and recording meetings.

Pros

  • The Live Caption feature that Google Meet has enables you to read what other contributors are saying.
  • The seamless integration with Google Mail and Google Calendar.
  • As the host, being able to manage participant admission and removal.

Cons

  • Keeping chat history for participants who join the meeting late.
  • Closing the chat box during a meeting prevents participants from chatting while the meeting is taking place.
  • Performance can be improved with a high participant load rather than with frequent warnings that the load is heavy.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are a Saas company, whatever leads comes from website from our demo booking link which is integrated with cal.com and that schedules our meeting on our google calender and all these meetings happen on google meet. So, for demos, we use Google Meet, and it is very easy to use. Further, all the training and after-sales support is done remotely, and for that, Google Meet helps us a lot as it provides screen sharing option.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

There are multiple ways. One is through group conference calls. We also have one-on-one meetings and regular engagements during our weekly, biweekly, and monthly updates. Sometimes, we even conduct webinars or conference sessions where there’s just one speaker and everyone else listens. So these are the different ways we use Google Meet.

Pros

  • It’s easy.
  • It’s integrated with Slack, so you just need to type a command and the link is generated, ready. You don’t need to go do scheduling — it’s quick to get a link in order to initiate a meeting. So that’s really quick.
  • Another thing is, it has an option for conversation in it, so I really like that you can have the video conferencing, and side by side, Q&A can also be taking place. You can either have a dedicated Q&A session going on, or you can have a global chat process also.

Cons

  • One major one — I always say that we cannot send attachments during the meeting. Teams has that, so I believe Google should add that as well. Because you can have the conversation in the messages, but you can’t provide a file. So let’s say I have a technical conversation with someone, and I want to share a document, like an architecture diagram — I cannot send it. We have to use Gmail or Drive for that. It can be integrated for sure, so that’s an improvement that definitely can be done.

Return on Investment

  • I would say, recently they introduced the transcription feature as well, so we can get the summary. It’s easy to conclude a meeting and send the minutes of the meeting very, very fast. Before, it used to take ages because you had to manually write down the notes — now Gemini does it for you. So that’s a big reduction in the manual effort we usually do. Also, the recurring meetings feature is something that I think really makes an impact. You don’t need to worry about rescheduling again and again — it does that for you.
  • It’s positive. As I said, there are definitely some improvements to be made, because if everything is perfect, I think that’s not the best product — there’s always room for improvement.

We use it for every single meeting. So internally, and if we are the meeting creator, it's all through Google Meet. So video, customer video calls.

Pros

  • I think it's fairly easy to operate. Once people get in, they know where the buttons are and stuff.
  • The chat's good.
  • It does good transcriptions.
  • I like the backgrounds that are available.
  • I like the just overall, I guess the layout is simple and most people know how to use it, which is good.

Cons

  • I don't know if this is a bandwidth thing or Google Meet thing, but definitely sometimes it will run slow or freeze because of the video being on the wifi. It is just running the video will kind of freeze your time out or you have to turn off your video. Otherwise, I mean, I like it. I don't really have that many negative or improvement feedback.

Return on Investment

  • It's definitely the way that we engage with our customers and each other. So I think it's really good that it can help you bring remote people together and feel like you've met with them online. And then when you meet them in person you're like, this tracks, this definitely coincides with who I saw online. So it definitely is a really good platform to just bring people together, but remotely.
