Pros

  • Good breakdown of resources, easy to access
  • Helpful representative

Cons

  • In my opinion, there is room for improvement in Jama Connect with a Newer, modern look, user friendly.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using JAMA Connect to track our requirements coming from Customer Requirements to our System Requirements and gather all Problems and Changes in development of Car Displays with it. We use it to get proof to our customers of following up on our tests and problem reports. This in conjunction with automated testing and integration of these tests with JAMA.

Pros

  • Tracking of issues related to requirements is easy.
  • Storing test results through the API into defined tests
  • Ease of use and understanding for end-users

Cons

  • Moving from Projects to Programs, were a program contains several projects. In the car industry you have a program which contains several projects (left/right side driving, with or without touch etc.) Still the same program.
  • Login to simple no 2-factor authentication possible
  • Login has no end-date so no warning of expiration-date on password.

Return on Investment

  • Specially the tracking of tests, problem reports, and changes in development is done very well. This saves time.

  • We're still evaluating this, but it looks like the biggest impact will be on requirements traceability and generating different reports

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Jama Connect (Jama) for requirements and risk file management. Jama Connect ensures that requirements documentation and risk files are in sync providing the required traceability that we need as a medical device manufacturer.

Pros

  • Jama Connect is customizable to fit any structure that an organization has.
  • Jama Connect maintains linkage between item types extremely well.
  • Jama Connect alerts you when you have suspect link issues after making updates.

Cons

  • If you can't utilize a template that is provided out of the box or a Word template that uses "Mail Merge" then you need a custom built template by the Jama Connect customization team. Or, you need to be trained in the programming language "Velocity". Both of which Jama Connect provides for a nominal fee.
  • Jama Connect could be a little more flexible in the testing area. Specifically, in medical device development, we need to test a minimum sample size of devices (usually at least 30) the data collection scheme only allows for 1 data entry per instruction. So, if you need to test 30 devices for the same test step, you need enter that test step 30 times in order to be able to capture 30 test data points. Imagine if you have to test 60 or 120 units! We don't use this feature because of that.
  • With look-up Matrix, only 10 items are allowed per axis of the matrix. It would be nice if this could be increased to a much larger number (30 to 50).

Return on Investment

  • We've only been using Jama Connect for almost a year so we are still learning it but the benefit of having accurate requirements and risk files is worth the investment.
  • Jama Connect states that it should take about 6 months for implementation. They provide a dedicated technical advisor, all the guidance documents, videos and tools necessary for success. However, if you don't have a dedicated internal implementation team (40 hours per week), this will take longer than 6 months. It took us 1.5 years.
  • Some of the modules that aren't provided out of the box, I think should be included in the initial implementation cost. Tehy are extra add ons.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize Jama Connect as our primary hub for requirements management and test management. Our organization manages a high volume of complex requirements and associated test cases that undergo frequent revisions.
The core business problem we solve with Jama is maintaining alignment amidst these constant changes. By establishing live traceability between requirements and test cases, we can instantly identify which tests are impacted when a requirement shifts. This automation eliminates the manual overhead of tracking changes in spreadsheets and ensures our coverage remains accurate throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Real time test execution status
  • Review Center

Cons

  • Export to Word needs extensive formatting. I hope Jama provide better export functionality
  • Jama cloud has some security issues. We decided stay on-premises
  • Jama cloud does not have a capability to stay on a particular release, and have a frequent releases within a year.
  • It would be nice if floating creator license users can select to access as read only or read/write at login time.
