Microsoft Azure has a good position in the market

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Microsoft Azure in lots of different ways, its a versatile product with a lot of different uses. We use it to host VM's, use Entra ID, host storage and as a back-up solution. It offers availability and redundancy without the need of investing in hardware ourselves. You pay for what you use and it's very flexible.

Pros

  • Removes the need to invest in hardware
  • Offers availability and redundancy
  • Constant development

Cons

  • Requires a lot of knowledge to administer
  • Even after obtaining the knowledge, some things are still hard to find

Likelihood to Recommend

It is well suited when you're environment is in need of an update, but you don't want to invest in new hardware.

It might be less appropriate for environments that need to keep their data on premise instead of in the cloud, like govermental organisations that need to contain their data within certain borders.

A powerful platform to integrate Microsoft services

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our organization uses Microsoft Azure cloud platform for the enterprise-level workflows. For example, we integrate it with Microsoft infrastructure, like Office365, Active Directory, API management and Teams.

Pros

  • API Management
  • Connect the existing on-premises systems to cloud solutions
  • Its cloud computing, analytics, and storage services.

Cons

  • The support is weak
  • Crossing platform issues
  • Deployment issues

Likelihood to Recommend

If you use a lot of Microsoft products and APIs, I recommend that you should use Microsoft Azure for a strong Integration with the Microsoft services.

Microsoft Azure - Enterprise Power and Complexity Controlled.

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As an AI product management technical architect, I leverage Microsoft Azure as our primary cloud platform to deploy and manage our machine learning models at scale, utilizing Azure Machine Learning for model training and Azure Kubernetes Service for robust deployment. Our solution addresses critical business challenges, including real-time data processing, inconsistent model performance, and the high operational costs associated with maintaining on-premises infrastructure. The scope of our Azure implementation spans our entire model lifecycle - from development and testing to production deployment and monitoring.

Pros

  • Enterprise-grade security and compliance.
  • Seamless integration with existing Microsoft products and services.
  • Hybrid cloud capabilities allowing workloads to run both on-premises and in the cloud.

Cons

  • User experience across Azure Portal interfaces lacks consistency and can be unintuitive.
  • Pricing structure remains unnecessarily complex and difficult to predict.
  • Documentation quality varies dramatically between services, with some newer offerings having significant gaps.

Likelihood to Recommend

Azure is particularly well suited for enterprise environments with existing Microsoft investments, those that require robust compliance features, and organizations that need hybrid cloud capabilities that bridge on-premises and cloud infrastructure. In my opinion, Azure is less appropriate for cost-sensitive startups or small businesses without dedicated cloud expertise and scenarios requiring edge computing use cases with limited connectivity. Azure offers comprehensive solutions for most business needs but can feel like there is a higher learning curve than other cloud-based providers, depending on the product and use case.

Microsoft Azure has all you need for cloud services

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Microsoft Azure in multiple ways. We run all our own application/software development and application related services in Microsoft Azure. This includes app services, function apps, databases, blob storages etc. We also use Microsoft Azure for reporting, analytics and data warehousing. OpenAI services are utilized as well for our AI needs.

Pros

  • Comprehensive set of services
  • Integrated to other Microsoft ecosystem like M365 and Power apps
  • Constantly evolving

Cons

  • Pricing and billing is not easy to understand
  • Used services may become obsolete/legacy all the sudden and this creates maintenance work for us to keep up
  • There can be redundant looking services and it is not always easy to see which service to use for example for storing data.

Likelihood to Recommend

Running hybrid cloud solutions together with on-premise infrastructure is easy and supported. There typically is a service for most IT needs available. Works well together with Microsoft ecosystem - especially M365 environment or on-premise Microsoft products.

The pricing is sometimes quite high or you quicly run into situations where you would need to upgrade to more expensive paid plans. Thus, it is not suitable if you have many budget constraints.

Microsoft Azure cloud services easily integrated into a hybrid infrastructure model

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have been using Microsoft Azure in my organisation for about 10 yrs, initially just for a few virtual machines and some blob storage, now we have various web services, storage, kubernetes, postgress databases, vpn and dns services.

Pros

  • user management
  • virtual machines
  • blob storage

Cons

  • aspects of front door are confusing
  • cdn is expensive

Likelihood to Recommend

It's easy to embed into your infrastructure, easy to manage permissions, easy to see costs and set budgets. For some services it is expensive and you need to keep an eye on spend, we have had a few unexpected bills in the past. there are so many products and offerings it's sometimes difficult to know which one to go for.

Microsoft Azure can get you to where you need to be

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize Microsoft Azure for services such as Entra ID, Key Vaults, Blob Storage, and PIM. The need to redundantly host services across CSPs is alleviated by utilizing Microsoft Azure as one of our CSPs. Whether it be managing users and groups, or hosting publicly and privately available files using Blob Storage.

Pros

  • Key Vault - Simple to use and limit access
  • Entra ID - Quite possibly the best directory service to use due to its popularity and extensive documentation
  • Blob Storage - Simple and easy to configure and use to provide publicly available assets

Cons

  • PIM - This could use a touch up to allow for more granular customization without having to create custom roles.
  • Sentinel - A great SIEM product, but this also could use work, possibly with multiple baked in KSQL queries depending on the products you attach.
  • Support - Support needs vast improvement, especially with the ability for users to be able to submit support tickets as long as they have certain PIM roles assigned but not activated at the moment.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you need a bulletproof directory service, Entra ID is the way to go which is supported via Microsoft Azure. This allows you to easily handle users, groups, devices, and authentication such as SSO and user provisioning through SCIM. If you're looking to host virtual machines and manage networks, Microsoft Azure needs a lot of work to be as user friendly as other CSP providers such as AWS.

Microsoft Azure advantages

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

More than half of our servers are currently running in Microsoft Azure. This migration to Microsoft Azure has been carried out in phases. At present, our network is hybrid. In the near future, we are aiming to move all other servers that are still running on-premises to Microsoft Azure as well. We sometimes encounter certain problems with legacy applications. These applications are occasionally not entirely ready for a move to Microsoft Azure. However, we notice that these vendors are also quickly trying to offer the possibility to make this feasible, or they are modifying the application and making it web-based.

Pros

  • Microsoft Azure is highly scalable and flexible. You can quickly scale up or down additional resources and computing power.
  • You have no longer upfront investments for hardware. You only pay for the use of your computing power, storage space, or services.
  • The uptime that can be achieved and guaranteed is very important for our company. This includes the rapid maintenance for security updates that are mostly carried out by Microsoft.
  • The wide range of capabilities of services that are possible in Microsoft Azure. You can practically put or create anything in Microsoft Azure.

Cons

  • It requires knowledge of Microsoft Azure to set everything up properly once the environment becomes somewhat more complex.
  • Microsoft Azure is a fairly dynamic environment that is still changing at a rapid pace. In most cases, these are expansions or improvements to Microsoft Azure's capabilities. However, this means that you must constantly keep your Microsoft Azure knowledge up to date.
  • Microsoft Azure does not always offer functional support for migrating old legacy apps to the cloud. This is also related to the vendors of the legacy apps, but there is still potential room for a good solution.

Likelihood to Recommend

Actually, migrating to Microsoft Azure is a good solution for almost any situation, especially when all components of your network are ready to become cloud-based. The only drawback I personally encounter frequently is that older software packages cannot always be easily picked up and moved to Microsoft Azure in an optimal manner.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Microsoft Azure houses the infrastructure for public facing websites

Pros

  • Ability to scale out the environment
  • Easy to find the details of each resource cost
  • Ability to separate roles

Cons

  • The cost of each resource is easy to find but the amount is not as clear when it is first setup
  • Along lines of cost, the costs in “marketplace” should be included in the billing to Microsoft and not separate

Likelihood to Recommend

The ability to integrate it into other packages for project planning, PowerBi reporting and overall security makes it an easy decision

Azure for small businesses and nonprofits

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Azure to shore up security and authentication for our Microsoft authenticated users, as well as to sync data between our on-premise servers and our cloud applications. Azure helps us to administer security in a centrally located single pane of glass within the confines of the Microsoft administrative portal.

Pros

  • Notifies users of any issues that may impact them and when they are resolved
  • Sync data between hybrid environments
  • Provide security templates and recommendations for cybersecurity site hardening

Cons

  • Stop changing the names of established products just for the sake of marketing
  • Stop breaking products that work with updates that remove crucial functionality
  • Do better at internal testing before launching a product/update

Likelihood to Recommend

Azure is well suited for businesses that need a cloud-centered platform for business data, applications, security, and continuity. Azure provides businesses with the tools they need to create a collaborative and agile foundation for the needs of their individual market segments. Microsoft is also established enough to trust with long-term solutions.

Microsoft Azure is going places

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I purchase and keep track of licenses for users. Create sharepoint sites, add and remove users etc. Microsoft Azure is easy to use once you start using it. The security aspect is also improved - making it easier to block sign-ins and more. MFA and policies have also improved, making it easier to manage end users and admins.

Pros

  • manage users
  • easy to edit policies

Cons

  • the users b/t exchange and cloud -
  • better Microsoft Graph management
  • improve the Bulk Changes feature - bulk add users AND the sharepoint sites they are a member of

Likelihood to Recommend

This service helps your employees access external resources, such as Microsoft 365, the Microsoft Azure portal, and thousands of other SaaS applications. Azure Active Directory also helps them access internal resources like apps on your corporate intranet network, along with any cloud apps developed for your own organization. IT admins use Azure AD to control access to apps and app resources. E.g., you can use Azure AD to support multi-factor authentication when accessing important organizational resources. You could also use Azure AD to automate user provisioning between existing Windows AD and cloud apps, including Microsoft 365. SSO rocks.
