Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Azure
We utilize Microsoft Azure for services such as Entra ID, Key Vaults, Blob Storage, and PIM. The need to redundantly host services across CSPs is alleviated by utilizing Microsoft Azure as one of our CSPs. Whether it be managing users and groups, or hosting publicly and privately available files using Blob Storage.
Pros
- Key Vault - Simple to use and limit access
- Entra ID - Quite possibly the best directory service to use due to its popularity and extensive documentation
- Blob Storage - Simple and easy to configure and use to provide publicly available assets
Cons
- PIM - This could use a touch up to allow for more granular customization without having to create custom roles.
- Sentinel - A great SIEM product, but this also could use work, possibly with multiple baked in KSQL queries depending on the products you attach.
- Support - Support needs vast improvement, especially with the ability for users to be able to submit support tickets as long as they have certain PIM roles assigned but not activated at the moment.
- Blob Storage is extremely cheap and very reliable, so the ROI on being able to keep some assets within the Microsoft Azure environment versus having to use AWS S3 is nice and avoids having to use cross-service IAM.
- Entra ID - limiting yourself to not having more than one directory service saves money and time.
- Key Vault - Similar to AWS Secrets Manager but on a higher scale and extremely easy to configure and manage has saved me time and money,
- Splunk Cloud, AWS IAM Identity Center and AWS Identity & Access Management
AWS takes the cake here just due to how simple it is to configure IAM roles, users, and policies. Microsoft Azure is nearly neck-and-neck and could probably overtake them in the near future. Splunk for logging isn't that great and Microsoft Azure does a solid job but they could do with a UI update to make it easier on the eyes.
