Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have been using Microsoft Azure in my organisation for about 10 yrs, initially just for a few virtual machines and some blob storage, now we have various web services, storage, kubernetes, postgress databases, vpn and dns services.

Pros and Cons

Pros

user management
virtual machines
blob storage

Cons

aspects of front door are confusing
cdn is expensive

Return on Investment

we can get products to market quicker than trying to build something like Kubernetes in-house
for some services it is cheaper to run on-prem, but you need to understand the cba.

Usability

As i've said it's such a huge suite of products which are constantly changing, it's a challenge to keep pace with the developments.

Alternatives Considered

Amazon Web Services

AWS is good for linux virtual machines and mac virtual machines, Microsoft Azure doesn't do mac VMs. However, in my opinion Microsoft Azure is better in every other aspect, easier to use and just as cost effective.

Likelihood to Recommend

It's easy to embed into your infrastructure, easy to manage permissions, easy to see costs and set budgets. For some services it is expensive and you need to keep an eye on spend, we have had a few unexpected bills in the past. there are so many products and offerings it's sometimes difficult to know which one to go for.
