8am™ MyCase and LawPay helped manage my time and clients

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use 8am to receive credit card payments (formerly LawPay), as well as for case management (formerly MyCase) as well as for client communications. The client management software allows us to organize our digital files, share documents securely with client and opposing counsel as well as allowing clients and opposing counsel to upload documents directly to our digital case file securely. Within 8am, we can also send and receive text messages from clients. Clients start their contact with us by completing an Intake Form we created and have within the 8am program and is emailed to them for them to complete and return to us connected directly to their consultation digital file. Because we do a lot of immigration work, we have added our docketwise addendum to 8am and all our client information will automatically populate into our immigration forms, saving us time and ensuring accuracy. We use this program for essentially the entirety of our practice.

Pros

  • Securely transfer documents to and from clients and opposing counsel
  • text messaging with clients and other contacts
  • Managing our office calendar with color coding for different office personnel
  • Taking and adding our credit card payments
  • Maintaing our digital files in the cloud allowing us to access them from anywhere at anytime

Cons

  • Time Entries should show as billable and non-billable without the need to open each time entry to see if it is billable or not
  • The app should allow searching for text messages just as the web version does
  • The app should allow searching for files just as the web version does

Likelihood to Recommend

It is great for taking credit card payments, managing calendars, sharing and accepting document uploads and maintaining digital files.

The app is better than nothing, however is vastly inferior to the web version. The time entries should show on the first screen whether they are marked as billable or non-billable without having to enter each specific time entry

A good product that every law firm should consider

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our law firm uses 8am MyCase for case management, client billing, and trust accounting. In terms of case management, we use it for calendaring, document management, and a convenient client communication portal. Our front desk is able to use the phone log feature to distribute missed calls to attorneys and staff. Our clients are encouraged to use the client portal to view documents related to their case and to communicate with our staff.

Pros

  • Client communication
  • Billing/Payment
  • Client Intake/Case set-up
  • Client creation

Cons

  • Collaboration on documents
  • Folder sharing with client
  • Navigation

Likelihood to Recommend

In our experience, 8am MyCase is especially well-suited for a small firm that needs an integrated case management/client communication/billing platform. It's integration with a payment processor makes it very easy to use and some of the recent integrations with payment processing have helped to reduce steps in the intake process for our firm. It has not been well-suited to multiple people working collaboratively on a single document. Specifically, the MyCase Desktop function seems to create havoc with two of our attorneys and our staff.

Industry Standard Law Practice Management Suite

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use 8am MyCase for most all aspects of my solo law practice. I keep track of billable hours, expenses, tasks, calendar items and handle all invoicing directly through the platform. It works great! I switched from a "legacy" competitor that I had used for 5+ years before making the switch to 8am MyCase and have never looked back. Even though it perfectly suits my needs for what I use it for, I know there is even more power to be unlocked from this platform if I merged/integrated other systems I use into this platform. Look forward to continuing to grow.

Pros

  • Case Management: calendaring and task tracking
  • Billing: time keeping, expense tracking and invoicing
  • Financial Snapshot: can quickly see outstanding invoices, paid invoices and cases to be invoiced

Cons

  • Accounting: probably more my fault, but I'm still using Quickbooks as my primary accounting platform.
  • Trust Reporting: wish it was more straightforward to generate triple reconciled reports

Likelihood to Recommend

8am MyCase is well suited for a small to mid (and probably even larger) sized law practice that wants a centralized platform to keep track of case details, calendaring, invoicing, timekeeping, expense tracking, documents, etc.. I know there are more features I could leverage with it, but even these "simple" (it's not always that simple") solutions it offers are well worth it.

Integrates with Dropbox and Outlook. Used for billing, calendaring cases info and keeping track of documents

Pros

  • Ease of billing
  • Keeps cases organized
  • Makes remote work easy

Cons

  • It would be nice to be able to bill for consults without converting the potential client to a client

Likelihood to Recommend

This is well suited for the small family law practice where I work

Easy to use

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use 8am to track my time, my payments, my expenses, and lead forms. I know it has capabilities that I have not used, but I like that I can use it for intake, client management, secure document transfer, and that it tracks hours, payments, and expenses.

Pros

  • User friendly time tracking
  • Easy to use intake forms
  • Client portal

Cons

  • Finding the intake forms is clunky
  • Reviewing the hours for one person is clunky
  • Once you de-active a user you lose some of the abilities to track their time and expenses

Likelihood to Recommend

I am a solo attorney. I needed a solution that was sophisticated but wasn't going to cost an arm and a leg. I think its perfect for that and intuitive for my staff.

Use MyCase for What You Need

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

My organization uses MyCase to keep track of our cases, their deadlines, and tasks that need to be completed, including for potential clients/leads. We also use MyCase to track our team's time and create timesheet reports each month. We're using some of the billing features as well but not all.

Pros

  • Task Management
  • Calendar Management
  • Reminders/Notifications

Cons

  • Use of AI (should not be integrated into MyCase, especially with legal services that require a high-level of confidentiality which AI cannot guarantee)
  • Payment Reconciliation (sometimes invoices don't show up, nothing in Help Center about how to remedy)
  • Billing (doesn't consider that billing contacts for a case may change based on who can pay)

Likelihood to Recommend

MyCase helps us track tasks across team members. For example, if one person needs to translate a document while another needs to schedule a meeting to complete a form with a client, both of those tasks can be entered and assigned to the correct person with separate due dates. However, we don't utilize the Billing integrations as much as we probably could, mostly because our clients often have more than one person paying on their case and it makes it difficult/complicated to reconcile in MyCase's built-in system.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

MyCase is a very user friendly tool which we use to store our documents and keep all our important files at the same place. It helps to streamline the process as it allows different levels to access the information as per need by the legal team when needed. It helps us to save time as well

Pros

  • Issue/case managing
  • Reminders
  • Payment reminder/collections

Cons

  • Integration
  • Collaboration with other software
  • Better Interface

Likelihood to Recommend

MyCase is the kind of software or tool which allows the organization to operate in a systematic manner for all the legal needs. Mycase allows us to keep track of the documents, digital signatures, internal/external linking, expense management at one place. It is also a very simple and easy tool to use.

Easy to use, Best in class Support tool for Legal Teams.

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We manage several vendor-specific contracts and other legal and financial statements and violation notices which are sent to us for breach of SLA. Being a medium-sized organization, our Legal team's headcount is very limited. It was earlier not possible to manage these legal docs and categorize and delegate to team members for action properly, keeping security and sharing restrictions in place. Still, MyCase has helped us resolve those concerns.

Pros

  • Ability to have all my cases available in digital format.
  • Simple and intuitive workflow management feature.
  • Ability to produce monthly invoices which can be send to clients/vendors.

Cons

  • Lack of 3rd party integrations like Atlassian, One Drive, Google Drive etc.
  • Ability to sync emails by adding outlook account.

Likelihood to Recommend

Well suited for teams having low legal workforce count who has to manage multiple legal docs and need standardized workflows to automate processing.

Great for small firms

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our partners use MyCase to help prospective planned givers arrange their estates towards a charitable gift or bequest. Most of these partners are estate planners or attorneys, and MyCase is a quick and easy tool to help clients work through various legacy giving options that best suit their needs and desires.

Pros

  • Great customer support
  • Good UX - easy, even for non-tech folks to learn
  • Keeps attorneys/planners up to date on latest & greatest

Cons

  • Automation not always the best
  • Pricing
  • A little glitchy with multiple files open
  • Calendaring/conflict resolution

Likelihood to Recommend

I'm not sure this would be a good option for a very large firm or one in which enterprise-level support is needed. If that was the case I would probably go with something that had more potential for customization and true integration across workflows. I do think this is a good option for a small shop that is looking for an easy entry point into this type of system.

Law Office Pros

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use MyCase for the following: 1. Time Tracking. 2. Client contacts. 3. Document management. 3. Invoicing. 4. Trust accounting. 6. Calendaring. It is a very cost effective management tool. We don't know what we would do without it. It has made us much more efficient.

Pros

  • Trust accounting. This is an area of great concern as little mistakes can lead to serious consequences.
  • Client management. By posting all client documents we have significantly reduced postage and rather than getting a phone call, the clients can see what is happening in their case.
  • Scheduling. This is a great way to keep on top of calendars and a better way to avoid missing deadlines.

Cons

  • Linking contacts in cases.
  • Calendaring and reminders.
  • Conflict recognition and resolution.

Likelihood to Recommend

I think for a small firm, i.e. 1-10 attorneys, [MyCase] is an ideal very cost effective platform. I suspect for larger organizations it might be a bit unsuited, especially for large projects with multiple lawyers.
